Munchkinland

...was tonight. It sort of snuck up on me, but everything turned out quite well. Munchkinland is the most twinked out LARP imaginable, for all those characters no one ever gets to play. We had most of the Endless from Sandman, a bunch from WoD including Cain, Salubri and Malkav, and Tinkerbell. Indy and I played Rosencrantz and Guildenstern a la Tom Stoppard. We came in not knowing where we were or why, the other characters soon realized we were 'mere mortals' and took advantage of us which resulted in our deaths... and then we floated a couple pages of Hamlet inthrough the window and came back, not knowing where we were or why or remembering anything from the last round. This may have frustrated the other characters, which was the idea. At one point we found out that Russel's character (Salubri) could heal mental illness, so we started trying to get his help for Hamlet. We got to the 'he's changed, transformed, inside and out' bit and then we had to wait until he stopped laughing out of character. It was amazing. I had a double headed coin and Hamlet pages to make origami/solve the mysteries of physics with, and Indy had a letter calling for our own deaths. Rolled up in her sword holder. Ah, symbolism. All in all, we died 3 or 4 times, and caused existensial headaches all around. The whole point of that LARP for us was to have characters who, while completely useless, wouldn't get taken out of the game, and it worked spectacularly. And then we got back to tower and ran the movie version after Caitlin and Anna's showing of JCS. So many people needed to see it, and now they have.

P.S.
That Our loyal friend and servant, the King of England,
As England is Denmark's faithful tributary,
As love between them like the palm might flourish,
As peace should still her wheaten garland wear
And stand a comma 'tween our amities,
Etcetera...
That on the view and knowing of these contents,
Without delay of any kind,
Should those bearers,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern,
put to sudden death,
Not shriving time allowed.

By Our royal decree,
King Claudius of Denmark
