The Reasons, In No Real Order:
-They look cool? On stage, too.
-They've got sick influences. I mean you'll hear snippets of jazz, funk, rock, pop, and R&B influence in it.. and it's sick. I don't mean like some blatant, abrupt, 10 second moment of "jazz" in the middle of a rock song, I mean like... the shit is subtler than a ninja at 2 AM. but its coool.
-They can acutally play, but they don't flaunt that like way too many bands do. I mean trying to show off your technical ability and shit (Ex: "Look how FAST we can go!", "Look how well our rhythm can COMPLETELY CONFUSE you! (But we know what we're doing)"
-What it means, is that when they wanna make you dance, they will succeed. Becuase they are funky white boys. (Translation: Good bass player & drummer)
-They were pretty much a heavy metal band (Hometown Hero) before they for whatever reason decided to play mainstream pop music..?
-The album's just like.. everything that was great about the 70's condensed into 42 minutes. Of course, that's a preposterous, vague, generalization/exageration.
-BUT all my exagerations are proven to contain at least 3% truth.
-They've just got like.. life. In this world, there's music that feels alive, and there's music that feels dead, lifeless, and drained of all energy whatsover. It's all up to your personal opinion what sounds "alive" or "dead" to you, of course, and that opinion will be perpetually changing, but it's like.. an worldwide truth. Okay, maybe not. But it's my opinion tonight, at least.
-Even if they're playing and writing complete pop songs, who fucking cares? I don't know what the hell it is scares so many people away from liking something that's largely popular. The fear of not being seen as a unique individal anymore? I don't know. What I was getting at, though, is that regardless of what kind of music it is, you can always feel when it's got life, when it's fucking breathing and speaking to you. And Under The Influence Of Giants is one of those bands that just sounds alive and real.
