I would've written about this when I first found out,
but there were finals that took up like every hour of my life. I got
into the New Orleans trip, and I'm really, really, happy about that. It
might sound stupid, but I'm really tired of just sitting back and not
doing much of anything except for living easy off a mile-high pile of
cash. Not only is that boring, it's also selfish to not make any effort
to help those who need help more than you. Sometimes we prefer to live
in ignorance because if you really make good use of it, you can block
about just about anything! The only problem: it makes you a complete
fucking idiot.
And by the way, my opinion has completely changed: Coldplay is fucking good.
By playing, learning, and practicing music, you learn what's easy and
what's not. When you hear something that's hard to do, you immediately
are impressed because you can't do it, and it's so easy to confuse the
words difficult and good.
(FYI, I'm still talking about music from the perspective of people who
play it- in my case at least). I used to have this tendency to get
absorbed in the difficultly
of playing somebody's music. For example, take 'Welcome to the Jungle'
by Guns N' Roses, and Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound'. I'm not about to rate either song, cause both are fucking good in their
own ways. You could say (and probably be right) that Welcome to the Jungle is a hell of a lot harder to play then Speed of Sound. However, what about the music? What about the lyrics? The song's meaning? And ultimately, how it affects you. There's so much more to music than it's difficulty.
So that's my speech for today: If you're a musician, don't forget that
there's more to music than it's difficulty! And if you're not then pick
up a guitar and become one, it's fun and expressive in millions of ways
and makes you look cooler.
