Back by popular request...okay, ONE request, but hey that's more than usual. I shall attempt to bring this blog out of self-loathing and see what happens. Besides, good stuff did happen recently.
The big trip to Sunflower Swing in Wichita was my entire goal for the month, and the run up to it was more or less haphazard and vaguely hysterical at times. Jillian and Eric and I managed to agree on a plan, Jillian would drive, I booked the hotel, Eric would do the heavy lifting. So we were set, all we had to do was wait. However, the week before the fest had plenty of stuff for me to do. Work had lots of stuff for me to do, possibly sending me to an early grave, but that's beside the point. Plus it made the time go by, and I was taking two days off, I had to earn it. Bleck.
On the upshot, while waiting for my vacation to roll around, my girlsquad and I planned our other vacation. Immediately following Cowtown in September, I will be winging my way to Albuquerque, hopefully not getting lost and winding up in a Bugs Bunny adventure, and meeting my fellow princesses for PrincessCon Southwest! We're totally excited. We get to stay at Hana's parents' new pad in Santa Fe, hang together in a lovely settng, and WE HAVE T-SHIRTS!!!! Hellz yeah. I have to also come up with a Mayapple suitable crown and gown, which may or may not be difficult. I have at least two months. But yes, Valerian, Hemlock, Juniper and I are havng way too much fun planning.
So that took up most of the week aside from work, and by Thursday afternoon, my manager gave me a kudos on my performance review, and then kicked me out of the office. I went to dance practice where it was only me and Christy, we worked on my frame and my following ability, and she told me to dance my ass off in Wichita, and I promised I would. I would learn fun new things, meet nice new people, and ask total strangers to dance.
Well, maybe not total strangers.
Friday I hauled myself up at a proper hour (not the crack of dawn, and not noon), finished packing up, and drove over to meet Jillian and Eric at Casa Eric. I said bye to Holmes and Mom, we managed to stuff all our crap into Jillian's blue Honda Fit Panda mobile, and when I say we, I mean Eric and myself. We like to prepped for emergencies. When the iceberg hit Wichita, he and I would be ready to go. We said goodbye to Zeke, and struck out for the epic roadtrip, by way of the grocery store for snacks. Teddy Grahams, pepperjack cheese, and chocolate covered peanuts, that's how we roll. We then got on the road, plugged in my special We Team Road mix, and proceeded to have our goofy adventure.
The trip was very sunny and warm, but the Panda did quite nicely. My cohorts enjoyed the mix, Eric predicted the Paramore, Jillian enjoyed the Doctor Who, and then she made the fatal mistake of commenting on the lack of Journey, which was followed by Eric finding my Journey playlist. But it was all good fun. The "road noise" joke made its debut and remained for the weekend, teehee. We made good time, I found out that Eric and I both enjoy Led Zeppelin for similar reasons. I also haven't listened to Zep in such a long time, it was nice. We made a couple of stops, discovered the gas station that recently enjoyed someone crashing through the front door, made some rude jokes about rail cars (because Eric and I had to take every opportunity to make Jillian giggle in spite of herself), and achieved the hotel.
It was hot. Really, really hot.
We took care of unpacking and went in search of all important dinner. Eric apparently found it by Yelping (is that legal? No, it wasn't road noise), and we walked through the Wichita business district to find some very tasty Mediterranean food. I had a gyro with delicious yogurt sauce, and we all agreed the food was great. Then we trekked back, changed out, and went to the opening dance. It was pretty casual, we didn't know a whole lot of people yet, but we ran into a few familiar faces, and I danced as much as I could, even if my scarf kept falling out of my hair. The dance didn't go late, because people needed to around for classes in the morning, so we took the opportunity to go swimming back at the hotel. I find I love swimming at night, don't have to worry about sunscreen, and if it's 110 degrees during the day, it's a perfect 85 at night. Plus I finally got to wear my cute bikini that I've had for months now. Apparently there were bystanders hoping for a wardrobe malfunction. This did not occur, phew.
Afterwards, we dried off and hit the sack. When I return, Saturday and Sunday of our swing weekend, and whatever else I feel like jamming down on the page.
