So work has been interesting of late.  Okay, that's a total lie.  The drama at work has been mildly interesting, the actual work itself reminds mind-numbingly banal.  Oh, joy.  Also, I've discovered the other contractor left with me is starting to drive me a little nuts.  The managers have had three staff meetings in a row the last three days, which means annoying contractor and I are left alone for about an hour.  Two of those days, she decided to come over and talk to me for fifteen or twenty minutes about why our job sucks.  Nevermind the fact that I actually have work to do, I'll just do it while she talks at me.  I'm not actually listening to her, or it could just be that the work is so effortless for me now that I can work and listen to her inane chatter at the same time.  Neither activity takes a whole lot of focus or thought.

Wow, I just became a snob right there.  Phew.

Anyway, my real point is that annoying coworker came up with the brilliant realization that the reason we have so much work to do and why the quality of work has gone down is because...wait for it...we're understaffed and we need to hire more people!!!  Holy crap, did you feel the brainwave?!  Because that thought totally hadn't occurred to me about five months ago when they stopped hiring people and started letting people go instead.  Oy vey...  Today she was hovering around our row and I was trying to not wear my "go away" look.  But perhaps that might've been more useful.

But something kinda cool did come out of the staff meetings.  Apparently, today, the managers were discussing the possibility of hiring and the understaffedness of our department, and then Brian, who is my only peer on the floor and a very sweet guy, said that if the company hires anybody, they should hire ME.  And everyone else agreed!  I am loved.  Of course, this poses a little contradiction to my plan of moving on and finding a job elsewhere.  I give up.  I just hope I can find a job with real salary sooner rather than later.

And that's all the news I feel like sharing now.  Cheers, my lads.

work, love, weekend
