VOTE VOTE VOTE

It's easy sometimes to feel that an election isn't important to you, personally, but don't feel that way about this one.  Republican or Democrat or other, you still need to do so.

I remembered an amusing anecdote about voting one day back in Charlottesville as I headed into Tuckahoe Elementary to vote today.

(There's a convoluted sentence for you.)

You may know that I used to be pretty darn Libertarian.  My political beliefs, like my religious beliefs, do slowly change, and I'm typically uncomfortable discussing them much publicly or vehemently.  (An often-considered odd stance for someone who was a government major.)  I do not consider myself a Libertarian nowadays - well, never with a big "L" at all, thanks to the Libertarian Party, but I digress (a bit).

I was walking into the polling area to vote for president.  This would've been...probably 2000.  On the way in, you had the usual slew of supporters of various stripes, the Republicans, in their suits, the Democrats in khakis and button ups, the Green Party in tie-dyed - the stereotypes were amazing.

Interested, I looked for a Libertarian Party presence, fairly certain it should be there, and didn't see anything.  I walked in, voted, and walked back out.

On the way out I found it.  There was one Asian guy sitting on the back bumper of his car, the hatchback open and pounding out loud techno.  That was the LP representation.

First thing I thought was "Damn, the LP has the coolest spot in the lot!"

Fast forward to today, six years and a hundred or so miles away, and there were two old guys arguing politics outside the school - dressed about the same as the Reps and Dems mentioned above.  Of course, it was raining, but it was a bit...anticlimactic.

(I remember it also being boring back in my polling station in Baily's Crossroads, but to be honest, I'm kind of blank on that one.)

GET OUT AND VOTE!  Damn you.  And if I do talk about politics, it'll be under a "friends-only" tag, so you'll need to add me to your friends list if you care at all.  I don't see why you would, but just in case.
