The word is French and is derived from the Latin verb "aperire", which means to open. This etymology is fitting since an ap鲩tif opens the meal.

Listerine as an aperitif would be a good compliment for a toothpaste dinner (was all I was saying). Next time I'll be more concise and use spaces.
