Went to Fort Dodge today to get some items to actually organize our home. Can't unpack the stuff we have because... well, we have no place to put it except in other boxes.
I also picked up Serenity... for we all know Joss Whedon is GOD. Too bad the local bookstore didn't have the RPG. I guess I'll have to make a trip down to Ames or just buy it off the Internet. And I was hoping to have a Serenity week end. Oh well.
As I watch the movie again, I realize just how excellent this movie is. Just watching it reminds me of one review of it I read. In the review, the reviewer remarks that one of the other people watching the movie stood up at the end and mutted, "Fuck you, Lucas" under his breathe. While I wouldn't go that far, I think Serenity is a new standard of sci-fi. And its a wonderful thing to behold. And from a story standpoint, its wonderful.
The heroes aren't even really heroes at all. At the beginning of the movie, they honestly seem to just be going where ever the wind blows them, just trying to survive. They rob, steal, cheat, and well... they just aren't the most wholesome bunch. But heck, it makes them more real.
And prehaps this is why Serenity is truly the greatest story of all time. Not just from the standpoint of being a good movie, but in terms of how it came to be. This is a movie based off a television show that was HORRIBLY misshandled and then cancelled. The cast was upset and mentioned how much they loved their characters. Joss loved the show. The people who did see it fell in love with it. And it was this force that brought it to the big screen.
This isn't the same revival Star Trek had. Star Trek had 3 seasons to build its fan-based before it was removed from the area. Firefly didn't even finish out its first season. It truly is a Cinderella story... which makes it even better to watch. Its nice to know that the fans actually DO matter. Although part of me wants to meet the suit who decided the show wasn't worth having and see how he feels now.
Frankly, I'm looking forward to more Serenity movies and I'm looking forward to whatever else Whedon puts out. Buffy, huge success. Angel, huge success and cut for no real reason. Firefly, the biggest Cinderella story of all time. Okay, so Point Pleasant tanked... How many other producers have put together 1 show with the following of any 1 of these shows... much less 3 of them.
