I am certainly wretched at updating this thing lately. :( It's not like I'm uber busy, or have zero things to say... I'm just lazy. Argh. In no particular order:
-The other day I had 6 really old mice to practice taking out aortas. In my next project, I have to take aortas of out really fat mice with atherosclerosis and these really old mice are also fat... so they're good practice. By the end, I was about ready to cry. It's incredibly hard to find anything with that much fat, much less a tiny aorta. Luckily, Stacey and I let Sandro know how hard it is, so hopefully we can find someone to help us/me with this craziness.
-I had my seminar last week, and I think it went really well. However, I continued my streak of low turnout in that pretty much only Sandro, Peter, and Guillermo were the only faculty there. I guess I'm not just interesting enough for everyone else! Guillermo told me I did a great job, although he kept making me hold back my giggles during my talk because I kept watching him fall asleep in the back (which he does for everyone). Earlier this week at someone's defense, he sat down next to me and said "You know, I'll have to admit, when you first got here I didn't think you could cut it since you're so quiet and laidback, but you've definitely proved me wrong." Coming from him... that meant a lot. I don't 100% agree with him, but it was nice to hear.
-Robert and I went home for a weekend and we played some disc golf with Jacob out in Monroe. It was a good course, though super hot, but I did a good job keeping up with the boys and didn't lose by too terribly much. Then we had to drop off Robert so he could clean stuff at home and Jacob and I met up with Liz at her place in Anderson. We had some dinner and then played putt-putt at Eastgate that I always see on my way to Portsmouth but have never actually been to. I had so much fun, it was great to talk to my best friends from high school so frankly. I miss them. On Sunday we got to see my cousin Joey and Josiah, who is still crazy, but he tried to fix my computer (stupid viruses from lab) and indirectly managed to take care of it. Whew!
-Stacey had a baby shower with us girls and some other ladies from the floor and we went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch one day. It was fun, but really hard to contribute anything to the conversations since I was the only person there who was not either pregnant or currently raising children.
-So, a lot of shit has gone down in our little gpcr lab group and long story short, I am now going to be taking over our mouse colony once Stacey goes on maternity leave. Dear God. I saw this coming, I just hoped I would be wrong.
-I finally caved and am getting my wisdom teeth out. They aren't impacted or anything, but I guess they're crooked enough to cause problems when they come in... or so 2 dentists now have told me. Bah.
