Nope, you aren't a freak who will always be a child. The fact that you are struggling with this shows it.
My guess, and this is me with my amature psychologist hat on, is that your mom is use to having a strong hand in your life, probably because of the anorexia. It's hard for mom's to let go. I have a hard time sometimes letting my two have some freedom and they aren't getting married and living an adult life. I would imagine this is hard on your mom.
As far as hurting them by not doing what they want, we parents have a job. our job is to raise our children to be productive members of society. So that they are able to handle life on their own, to make the world a better place then before they came in, and for them to be selfreliant and self assured. Sounds to me like you are doing that. So really this shows me at least that your parents did a great job. That and the fact that you are a very nice, sweet, loving, giving woman. I promise your parents are proud of you. And from my point of view, they did their job right by you. Now, mom has to learn to let go a bit. It's kinda hard for us moms. We get use to making those decisions and it's hard for us to let go. Be as patient as you can with your mom, and realize that you are teaching her a lesson she has to learn. There is a myth that parents teach their children, but trust me on this, kids teach their parents far more then we teach our kids. Mine have started teaching me patience. Something that most people, including me, had believed was as likely as dinosaurs roaming the earth again.
So, to recap: You are doing fine, be patient with your parents as they adjust to things and remember that parents have to grow up too.
I said I had more, not I had alot. I haven't killed you yet, that shows patience. I didn't kill you while pregant, that is one of the wonders of the world. I can be less patient. I would be happy to show you!
