Little River 10 Mile Trail Race

Last weekend we ran in the Little River 10 Mile trail race. When I signed us up, I didn't realize just how cold it would be.... Yeah I know it's January, but in North Carolina it's entirely possible to be comfortably wearing shorts one week and a heavy parka the next week. You just never know ( Read more... )

Nice report. Sorry you came in last. I'm not that fast either, but yeah, I usually manage to pass up a couple of plodders.

I haven't done that many trail races, just a couple of turkey trots through the woods.

Didi anyone faceplant in the mud by any chance? Maybe make it look like a mud run?

Lol, I didn't see anyone with a face full of mud. But I asked one of the volunteers helping on the long stretch by the river and he said quite a few people fell!

You know, I never thought about it but you CAN PR and still be last. Someone has to be last, sorry it was you this time :/
I know what you mean about temperature changes so quickly. I'm in GA and it went from 75 to 40 overnight. Not happy.

The personal record was coming in last :) Not everyone can say that one!

Yeah - I remember signing up to a summer five miler thinking, oh we will just trundle round, it will get us out of the house... turned up, looked round, all ages sure but the grannies had that steely-eyed look about them -
"Oh crap," we thought, "we're going to be last!". It was the county five mile champs, on a summer Saturday evening, so, er, mainly it was county champs standard runners. We came in the last 10% and had to work quite hard to get that high up!! Heh.

Yikes, I'd be nervous about those grannies :)

Sounds like the race was quite the adventure! Congrats on your PR. I remembering being pleased with myself when I PRed in a difficult trail race (couple of nasty hills and I took a digger during the second loop), even though I was 5th in my age group.

Grats on your trail PR. It's tough going and a real accomplishment to do well!

Brrr! That looks cold! Congrats on your finish. I ran in a small race last fall and was also the last runner to finish (though an average finish time for me). It's kind of a weird PR. ;)

Small races seem to be riskier for coming in last :-)
