A time to remember

Alex is in his black suit. It's not something he likes to wear. But it's what you wear on such occasions. He looks around to see the friends that Kita has made. He looks at Kita, the weight of the world on her young shoulders.

He finds Rapunzel and wordlessly takes her hand.

As much as he wishes this didn't have to be, it seems like it's the right thing to do.

She squeezes his hand, and leans into him a little. It's a somber occasion, and she is glad to see Makita's friends come out to support her. (Even Goldilocks.)

"I hope this does her some good."

Her words are quiet, and meant only for Alex's ears.

"She said that there wasn't really time for grief and saying goodbye in Bahumut."

"No, there wouldn't be. Not in that hell." He remembers (yet again) that one afternoon spent there. He feels the long-since-lost bullet graze him again.

"But here...there's always time enough." He wonders if Kita can see that, though.

"We can hope, and be here for her. Sometimes grief is a very private thing, and sometimes you just need others to know what you've lost and missing."

She observes Makita with no small amount of empathy.

"Sometimes when just one person is missing, the whole world becomes a smaller, darker place."

There isn't much to say. So Alex just holds his beloved closer.

Seeing Knox and Rapunzel here and together brings a smile to Makita's face. It's a tiny smile, true, and shadowed with pain, but it's there.
