Every year around this time in my town, there is a parade. It's called the Blossomtime Parade, and it has pageant queens and floats and clowns and shriners and marching bands from around the state and horses and things of that nature. Everyone goes to see it.
This year, there was a gay pride float. It was an American flag-styled thing with the words "YWCA Out & Affirmation Club" on the side, becasue that's our local LGBT orginization, if you can call it that.
People were taking their children out of the middle school marching band because of it. Some folks were refusing to go. A few of the parade workers quit.
I went to see the parade today with my best friend Noah and my girlfriend Mercedes. We watched, and had fun, and all was well...and then the gay pride float came by.
People cheered.
Sometimes I have days when I hate this town with all my heart...and then things like this happen.
Thank you, Michigan, for not completely sucking.
