I built the first 4' square today and marked off the square foot plots for planting. Planted 4 of the 6 tomato plants in their squares and put two of the plants in individual pots. Sorted out the plan for the other 12 squares with the girls when they got home. Final layout is 2 squares of bush beans, 2 carrot squares, 2 spinach squares, 2 golden beet squares, 2 of white radishes and 2 okra squares.
I will be finishing up the trellis hopefully tomorrow and a second square for corn and maybe something else. The trellis will support the tomatoes, a couple squares of peas, pickling cucumbers and some regular cucumbers.
I'm really jazzed about being able to plant again and look forward to seeing how the square foot method hold ups. If this works out ok, it will be an easy and economical way to provide a good supply of fresh veggies for the intentional community.
I'll keep updating...
