Today is my golden birthday (since today is the 22nd, that means I turned 22). Today I finished reading the Tolkien trilogy for the seventh time.

Happy birthday!

I guess then you're one who believes history is really biography, the story of a few greats?

Well, it's more a theory of stories than a theory of history. But I do see sense in that idea. It's better than history being the story of a bunch of wars! :D What's your opinion? I don't think I really know enough about history to make a judgment.

Well, the other idea is that it's all socio-economic, and the leaders involved don't matter much. I think it's a combination of the two. History is greatly affected by the actions of a few, but that a civilization strong socio-economically can survive through poor leaders; a good leader can raise a civilization from poor status.

I don't know if I have a favorite character--I think I love them all. In the movie, I like the cute ones. :D But in the books, I don't think I ever chose. It's been a long time though.

Orcs are fun. Especially when they talk in funny cockney accents.

Yes. HP canon all the way! ::pumpsfist::

Even though I've only read The Hobbit once and the trilogy 1 1/2 times... (er...one skim-read, and once determined to eat up every word of landscape decription and what's the name of the horse ___ son of ___ is riding)

Sam and Gollum remain my faves, though. In movies and books. As always, the purely naive, humble chacter and sorta morbid/pathetic tragic character.

I think I like Sam because he reminds me very much of Neville Longbottom, my fav HP char. He's stouthearted too, wait and see. STUBIFY!
