Lucy needed to go to the vet in December and since the girls are obsessed with pointing out where her "doctor" is and asking why she goes there, I thought I would take them along. I made the appointment for the Monday after Christmas since we were all home.
Lu needed her heartworm test, a vaccination, and she has some tumors that I was concerned about. One felt different than the others and honestly, I was dreading this appointment a bit. What I hadn't thought of until I was in the room with two toddlers was that when I brought Maddy in for her tumors we had the cancer conversation and I broke down crying in the room. Lots of mental thoughts to hold it together and simultaneously cursing myself. Luckily her tumors are fatty masses and all is good. For the first time I bought the wellness plan. I like the idea of basically paying for all of her medical care ahead of time. It ends up being about the same as I spend in a year, except the tests and dental procedures that they now recommend because of her age that we don't normally do, will be covered. She gets her teeth cleaned at the end of the month. I'm sure she'll enjoy it.
She's also on a diet. She weighs 78 lbs. Yikes. Highest ever. Part of the problem is lack of exercise. She doesn't run anywhere in the yard because of the snow and we can't take her on walks. I've heard that a neighborhood woman will walk dogs for $3 a time. I'm going to contact her to see if she'll walk Lu 3x a week. I'll easily pay $10 a week for her to get some exercise. I've also cut off all human food. I used to give her whatever was left on the girls plates, but no more. Here's hoping our next visit is a lighter one!
