Character Information
Name: Hanabusa "Hana" Seki
Canon Origin/Series: Nabari no Ou
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Ancient Runes & Ancient Studies (an extra-curricular that appears in one of the games). In Canon, Hanabusa is a paleontologist who spends most of her professional time in either the field or a museum. Given Ancient Runes and Ancient Studies are studies of the historical, it would only be natural that Hanabusa be teaching them. She's aware of the importance of history and is keen to both learn and impart knowledge about the subject (especially to kids).

Gender: Female
Age: 39
Out of school living location: Glasgow, Scotland, but she's rarely home. During breaks, she tends to disappear off into the sunset foreign countries to further her studies in Ancient Magic and Runes. Or sight-seeing.
Blood status: Muggleborn.

Personality:In one sentence: Sweet as candy.

There is never a moment where Hanabusa fails to see the bright side of things. She generally smiles amiably, something which makes the most stubborn and grouchy of people Yukimi break down into pleasantries, and isn't afraid to extend her hand to a stranger. Naturally an optimist, she faces her difficulties with a bright disposition; although she's not afraid of getting stern when the situation calls for it, especially not when someone is putting themselves down.

She's definitely very confident and at ease in her skin. In fact, she takes the fact that she's no longer too young very well and is one to make jokes at her expense, even if her sight is taking a bit of a hit (she needs reading glasses!). To her, it's important how you define yourself -- in her words, "you" alone have control over that, it's something people can never take from you. As such, it's entirely possible that she looks down on bullying and other type of harmful behaviour.

She's definitely very considerate of other people's feelings, to the point she will intervene in a fight because you are too loud--besides, wouldn't it be nicer to solve your problems over some tea and hot snacks?. And, if you're feeling blue, Hanabusa is the right person to come to. She listens to your problems and doesn't judge you for whatever grievances you might have; she will give you great advice, no matter what, all over a cup of tea or the drink of your choice. You want crumpets or cinnamon rolls? Oranges? She'll gladly get you some, too, especially if it makes you feel better (♥). She's, all around, a kind, gentle and understanding person but she chalks this up to years of life experience.

Unfortunately, she's a little forgetful. One second, she might be nodding to your story or talking about this or that and she will remember she forgot to bring or do something.

As for her interests, Hanabusa is highly intellectual without being arrogant or reclusive. More than anything, she loves discovering new things and imparting this knowledge onto others. She's very disciplined and dexterous with her hands -- with the same hands she uses to dust or rebuild artifacts, she knits and cooks.
Canon Background: Presented as Thobari's live-in girlfriend. Her personality is static and compared to the rest of the cast her role in the story is absolutely minuscule. For one, she's not a ninja and has stated she has no business or interest in "that" world; however, this does not keep her from supporting Miharu, Yoi-te or her boyfriend Thobari from the sidelines. In any case, she seems to push them forward with her gentle words and affection.

As the events of Nabari unfold, Hanabusa is, as I mentioned before, largely in the sidelines, unaware of the seriousness of the clan battles that are taking place. She doesn't understand how important Miharu is in this ordeal due to Shinrabansho because she's completely unaffiliated to the world of Nabari, but she cares about him deeply. Likewise, she cares very much about Yoite and takes him into her home, despite the circumstances and outside conflict. To her, the Kairoushuu means nothing and, as such, she receives Yukimi warmly even though he demands to know where Thobari, her boyfriend, is. Although she's very welcoming, she stands her ground.

In her next appearance, Yoite and Miharu are sneaking into her home and, apparently, didn't think Hanabusa would be around. She takes them in again and validates Yoite's existence -- she made him feel like he was worth something.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): Killer, Hanabusa Seki was born to two muggleborn parents in Scotland. Her parents, two Japanese immigrants, struggled with political views in their native country and thus, moved to the United Kingdom in hopes for a better life. It was hard, at first, but they eventually moved into a nice suburb and lived pretty normally until couch cushions began hopping when Hanabusa felt upset. Months before her 11th birthday (she's a November child!), Hanabusa and her parents received a visit from an eccentric man bearing a letter, an acceptance letter into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Everything clicked into place: the hopping cushions, the color-changing sheets et al. And thus, after a brief discussion with the eccentric man - the Headmaster, he clarified - and Hanabusa, the Seki family decided to send their child to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Upon arriving, she was sorted into Hufflepuff. At Hogwarts (and outside; she's one of those avid readers and her parents travelled a lot), Hanabusa developed an interest in Ancient Runes and Ancient Magic and the rest, as they say, is history. After graduation, she packed her things and went off on a long journey trip around the world to investigate.

At the age of 21, she returned to the United Kingdom and applied as a teacher's aid until she could finally assume the post of professor. She became popular with her students because of her good nature and her easy-to-understand explanations. Now and then, she disappears for a few weeks or months for investigations and sometimes, along with other wizards, she's summoned to the Ministry to decipher old runes or explain some long-forgotten magical concept.

She will be recently returning from an investigation in Egypt... as a Queen.

Sample Journal Entry: ( intended recipient: ancient runes students )

, students! You've all been studying diligently during my absence, right? I certainly hope so, because starting tomorrow I will be assuming my role as professor once again!

We will be covering the subject of Divination tomorrow and, consequently, writing an essay in class about the differences between modern-day Divination and Runic Divination. If we get this done in time, I might show you something that I acquired in Egypt; I might even bring pumpkin tarts, but that's not necessarily a promise~ ♥

( intended recipient: ancient magic students )

That's Long time, no see! in Chinese. As promised, we will delve into Ancient Chinese Magic! Unfortunately, we have to review Ancient Egyptian Magic first and that might take us a bit of time. I'm sure this isn't exactly what you wanted to hear after such a lengthy absence, but I'll be sure to make it up to you by making it interesting~

I can't wait to see you all! ♥

( intended recipient: fellow professors )
It's been a long time, my friends! I hope you took good care of those two dummies Thobari and Yukimi! If left alone, they'll forget to feed themselves!

The souvenirs! That's right, I forgot to say I brought souvenirs!

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person: It had been a long time -- about six months, in fact! -- since Hanabusa last set foot in the Hogwarts. Egypt was, by all means, fascinating, but nothing could possibly compare to Hogwarts, in the end. The soft murmur of students as they waited for their lessons to begin, the excited chatter of her Ancient Studies pupils, the traded banter between Thobari, Yukimi, and her -- students of her once, fellow colleagues in the present -- these and more were things she missed in the grand catacombs of Egypt. She smiled to herself, as she climbed the Grand Staircase.

In her hands she held a box: reading material, a surprise or two, and maybe a tiny gift for each and everyone of her students. She would be lying if she didn't admit she wasn't excited; she was. The rest of the semester was rife with possibilities but, most importantly, lessons to be learned and students to be taught. As she reached the sixth floor, she took a deep breath.

"Guess who's back~!" She exclaimed. Her students whipped their heads, shocked, until their faces finally softened and broke into amiable grins.

"Professor Seiki!"

"Now, now, let's quiet down, lest we bother our neighbours in 6B." Hanabusa closed the door and made her way to her desk. "Today, I've a special surprise in store for you all!"
