Fundraiser adventures with my cousins.

My two cousins and I went to a fundraiser to help support a local kid who has cancer. I made it seem like an adventure. I decided to write about it here the way I was thinking about it while we were there. (Afterward we went to the mall, and I bought stuff, and it was fun, but this is about the fundraiser!)

It started out nicely after my Aunt dropped us all off there. My younger cousin was volunteering at one of the booths there, and her older sister and I tagged along to check it out. This is where our adventure began.

It was in a large park that was nearby a cute little forest path and also a road that looked basically empty near the park, but on which either direction lead to a part of the town. This is what gave me the video game "small-town festival" feeling. My younger cousin ran off in search of the booth she was helping, and her sister and I decided to look around. We began our adventure with $15. First, we bought the one thing my younger cousin wanted: a raffle ticket. We bought one and placed it in the jar in front of the prize she wanted. We quickly found a booth selling some bracelets and bought some. I bought a beaded bracelet with the name of the boy the fundraiser was for in it, as did my older cousin, as well as a livestrong-type bracelet that said "No one fights alone" on it. We equipped the accessories for +1 speed and continued on our way.

With $2 left, we went to look at a bake-sale. My cousin found Orange-Blueberry Bread item, and I happened to spot one last Odd-shaped Bread item. We bought them with our last bit of money. I saved mine and she ate hers for a temporary boost in stamina. We kind of wanted to still buy stuff, and no one at the fundraiser had a machine to use credit cards or debit cards, and we were out of money. Earlier though when we were getting the raffle ticket for my younger cousin, someone said the town nearby had a few ATM monsters we could battle for money. We hadn't originally planned on it, but after deciding we wanted to buy more items, we set out in search of one of them.

We walked to the road and tried to figure out which path was the shortest way to an ATM monster. We decided that the part of town that lay down the road to the right was closer, so we set out on that path. We finally reached the town after about 5 minutes of walking. An introduction animation played for the particular part of town at this part. We walked until we found an open pub and asked someone inside it if there was an ATM monster nearby. They pointed us to a pub next door, and some of the patrons there pointed us to the ATM. I pulled out an item I had that persuades the monster to part with some of its cash, but it didn't make it easy to get anything because it used a different-than-usual method of reading the item. A battle took place and my older cousin and I were almost defeated when the item finally worked on what was probably going to be our last turn before resting somewhere and trying an easier opponent. We took our cash and left the pub. We explored the town a little bit, and a tiny cutscene of the two of us examining something from WW2 played. Afterward, we continued on our way back to the fundraiser.

I separated what little inventory space I had (two pockets) into "money pocket" and "not-money pocket". We returned to the event and I bought a T-shirt for myself and my older cousin (+2 defense). More of the money was spent on potions and ethers to help us recover from our battle with the ATM monster and to restore fatigue. I couldn't carry it all, so I took the T-shirt I bought and the rubber bracelet and fashioned myself a make-shift inventory. I was able to store everything inside it, as well as a few of my cousin's items. At one point an ice-cream vendor came by to mooch off the fundraiser. D:< Well, at least it looked that way. We don't actually know if he even knew if it was a fundraiser, but it was still wrong. Luckily though, he left fairly soon. A friend of my older cousin met us while we ate some of our snacks, and a traveling bake-sale came by. There were some Strange Desserts (+ 1 luck) in there which we all bought. One was broken up and offered to me for free because of its poor condition, but I paid for it regardless. I added it to my inventory and we decided to head out. We had to search long and hard for our younger cousin, who had wandered off from her booth after being dismissed and then from her group of friends, and we found her getting more raffle tickets. XD; We let her finish them up and then set out for the mall, thus concluding our adventures at the fundraiser. It turned out to be a really fun day!

Here's to the 8th grader for whom the fundraiser was being held! He has a brain tumor, so my prayers and hope go out to him! May he recover and recover well!
