I am now horribly upset, and terribly pissed off.
If Philip Pullman was dead, I'd totally hope he would turn in his grave. I hated it.
* They totally removed the backstory with Lyra and the Gyptians
* They smushed Billy Costa and Tony Makarios in to one character
* They took out the vague moral ambiguity of having the master try and poison Lord Asriel in the retiring room by insterting Fra Pavel and making the magisterium look a lot worse than it seems in the book. The film makes the church look a lot more sinister and evil, as opposed to the book that simply makes the Magisterium look a bit... all pervading.
* Why wouldn't whats-her-face put a damn black wig on to get Mrs Coulter right? Damn woman.
* Why did they fidle with the oder of events? Lyra went to Bolvangar, then Svalbard. Not the other way around, fools. There no way of getting from Svalbard to Bolvangar on land (or on bear).
* Wasn't Lord Boreal bald? I thought he was supposed to be bald....
* The way Iorek was written in Trollesund made him seem like such a stupid brute. And why in christ's name did they change his back story? Now the bears just seem like they value nothing but winning, rather than honour.
* WHY DID THEY CHANGE IOFUR'S NAME, WHY OH WHY? (capslock of woe)
* BillyTony CostaMakarios didn't die either. People are suppose to die without their souls, and intercision cuts away what is pretty much thought of as their soul - their daemon.
* And why didn't they finish the damn book??!? Roger was supposed to cop it at the end, and I would have loved to watch Daniel Craig do Asriel's reaction to Lyra turning up at his house on Svalbard (he was not captured by Samoyeds damnit).
And now, for things I actually liked...
* The daemons. Stelmaria was beautiful, and her voice was perfect.
* I quite liked the Witches too. Didn't spot Kaisa though, although that may have happened when I popped to the loo. Yes, I was bored enough to actually pee in the middle of a movie. Normally, I won't
In short - go see it if you aint read the book. If you have read the book, go see it if you're a masochist.
