It does change you, though, seeing a first-born. When I saw my godbrother's daughter at the hospital nearly thirteen years ago (geez, has it really been that long? wow), I stopped being just another ten-year-old kid. "This baby's going to think of me as her aunt," I realized when I held her for the first time. And it's been amazing watching her as she and the others in her generation grow older, knowing that in some ways, I grew up and changed because of them, and that in some ways I influenced them into becoming wonderful people.
I ramble too much, but I think my basic point is, I know what you mean when you talk about change. That's what I love about life - it's always changing and happening, and it's not worth missing. :-)
