I saw something today that I didn't want to see. I realized that livejournal is harboring some some pro-anorexia communities. I sat here for a while and wondered what to dow tih that information. It just made me feel so unconfortable because it seems that young females flock to lj and that many of them are still at VERY impressionable stages. So, I contacted LJ.
Heres the response I recieved:

The decision on these has been one of watching, but otherwise allowing them to run undisturbed.
While sometimes the content can get a bit disturbing we have found that they are more supportive than destructive.
As it stands right now, LiveJournal.coms business manager is working with a national representative of an anorexia organization. From that we hope to establish future guidelines for these types of communities but until such time as those conversations are completed, we are pretty much taking a hands off approach.
We do appreciate and share your concern, and we thank you for your input in this matter.
