I have to read this and this, which is why I'm elljaying instead.

Today, we had Kevin Acklin, the Independent candidate for Pittsburgh mayor, come to Chatham.  Tomorrow, we're going to have the last of the three candidates, Franco Harris.
He was...interesting, I guess.  There were some things that are a little dodgy, some that made me really ( Read more... )

yay chatham COLLEGE! i hate the fact that we're a university, blah.

PPS should model what Fox Chapel is doing. They *are* a good school district. That's where they sent the special ed kids from my neighboring district of Deer Lakes.

again, not cool to make fun of the mayor.

so you don't think a mayor could be a parent or that a parent could be a mayor?

Me too, actually, but it still doesn't mean that the mayoral candidate shouldn't know what his speaking venue is called. That frustrates me, he's supposed to know about the area he wishes to represent and lead.

I've heard about Fox Chapel. Sounds like hell to me. Spoiled preppy rich kids everywhere you look? I guarantee the special ed. kids wished every day of their lives that they weren't there. I feel so so so horrible for them :(

I don't, no. You can't be both. You can either be a good parent or a good mayor, but I do not believe the two can be balanced.

it's a mix. yes, fox chapel is rich, but the kids from sharpsburg go there too, and seeings how the kids from my school were awful to brandy, she looked forward to having the chance to go to a different school and get away from the people at ours.

we've got spoiled rich kids here.

Dunno who brandy is, but did you have contact with her afterwards, to hear what she thought of her new environment?

YEAH. I live with them.

i had contact with her for the two years that i lived in russellton. she lived in my neighborhood, and she never seemed to mind going to fox chapel, whereas at the deer lakes she'd be crying on the bus cause the kids were so cruel.

it bothers me that fox chapel gets attacked for being rich (which, yes, it is), when the fact is that they have a good school district with good teachers. was this mayor proposing to try and mimic what they're doing in fox chapel and bring those strategies into PPS?
