GINTAMA ICONS.

Forgive me. I tried.
Im so lazy I just used Gintama screenshots I already had 8D

Icons are all about perspective and lighting and picture resolution etc all of which goes right over my head but I attempted it X__X

Spoilers for like...the whole series. None of these seem to be in any order either.

TEXTLESS DOES NOT MEAN BORING.
And err... making icons is not about perspective and lighting. (Though resolution does sometimes, as does aspect ratios AKA don't crop an almost square and resize the picture to be a square, because the result looks squished and not good.)

It's more about cropping and framing, which you seem to be reasonably good at.
As such, my favourites are 1, 13, 25, 28 and 34 in the first batch and 9 in the last.

Well... what program are you using to crop? I might be able to dig up a tutorial for you. (Warning, making icons can be addictive, especially when you get into using textures.)

Oh Im just using GIMP.

And I know its totally too late for me I already sit here and just make them for hours x__X

GIMP's pretty good, I haven't played in it much, but it does have quite a lot of the features that Photoshop does and there are quite a few icon makers who use it as well.

myrasis has a link gallery of GIMP tutorials, as well as a techniques and effects guide. (This one is specifically about aspect ratios.)

icon_tutorial understandably has tutorials as well, their memories and tags are worth a look.
If you feel like going fancy, toon_tutorials is the best place for anime/manga tutorials, since making icons with them is often a COMPLETELY different story compared to live-action images.

O: Thankyou Chloe! *bookmarks* I actually read that aspect ratio one the other day but took one look at the math diagrams and passed it over XD Im so lazy Ill go back and read it properly now.

Ahhh theres so much involved in icon making. You think its just point, snip and click but BOOM its like...a whole different world @__@

The math diagrams aren't too bad, but I just generally chuck out badly proportioned 'caps.

I know right? Some of my early icons you can just see I thought it was about cropping, adjusting levels and you has an icon.
I kind of like my more recent ones though, even if they take longer.
