Character Information
Name: Laura Ambrose [Surname is headcanon]
Source Canon: Silent Hill 2
Age: 8
Role In Canon: Occasional thorn in the main character's side, deliverer of exposition, and generally minor character
History: Wiki Link; I'm taking her a bit after she learns the truth about Mary's death from James.

Personality:
Most people encountering Laura for the first time find a rather abrasive little jerk. While she doesn't normally start out interactions in "snotty little brat" mode, things usually hit that point very quickly: the moment someone shows a sign of weakness, or doesn't live up to her expectations, BOOM! miniature bully! Her hijinks include heavy amounts of snide verbal abuse, occasional physical attacks, and stealing things.

It's not so much that she's malevolent; Laura just has Issues, and, being a kid, has a lot of trouble expressing herself or dealing with them. Hence, if Laura is unhappy with you, you will know it. Particularly if you're an adult, because she really wants to prove that she is an Independent Woman who does not need petty things like caring and nurturing authority figures.

Laura doesn't really understand how hurtful she can be, and doesn't intend actual harm (beyond a certain level of "You'll be sorry!"). She just wants to be strong, and (being a kid) only understands a superficial level of strength. As such, she's very impressed by renegades, badasses, and other types who don't need petty things like emotions or social bonds. Or at least people who appear that way at first. She doesn't quite get that these people lack emotional bonds because they're dangerous, and fortunately she's managed to avoid terrible consequences thus far (mainly because she's only had one opportunity to hang with a legitimate psycho killer, and she didn't really know it at the time). She'd love to be considered part of some sort of criminal gang, at least until she understood that they were doing actual bad things that hurt actual people.

For someone who's willing to put up with her terrible attitude for a little while, Laura will eventually dispense with the bullshit (mostly) and open up. She does actually want a strong parental authority figure (amazingly enough!) and most of her jerkassness is a combination of testing boundaries and not getting her hopes up; she's been without parents for so long that she's afraid nobody will actually want to adopt her. She's also interested in friends, and can reveal a little vulnerability if she senses she's talking to someone who's as put down as she is.

If a person does get past her defenses, Laura is tenaciously loyal. For Mary, she not only singlehandedly made her way to another city- one she'd never been to before- she roamed the entire place looking for her friend, also waging a one-girl war against her friend's neglectful husband. Pretty much, if she puts her mind to it, Laura can be a force to be reckoned with. Well, for an eight-year-old.

Abilities:
Self-sufficience not normally found in a child her age; the ability to be a horrendous brat and somehow not die.

Sample:
[Contacting other people on the Vine? Asking for help? That is a loser thing that only losers do! Which is why the New Kid here has elected to wander off and occupy herself in making a flower crown and then exploring. She's scaling a statue in the memorial garden when the Vine, annoyed at the neglect, starts broadcasting. There are a few moments of unexciting and self-absorbed childhood innocence before she notices that she's on candid camera, at which point her expression darkens with annoyance.]

What're you lookin' at?
