Oooh, suspense! I'm glad I finally got time to read; this was really interesting. Some good writing too--I especially liked the bit with the pigeon comparison. ^^

Here's an odd question: I know you're working in an AU-ish history, so I was wondering if there's been any divergence yet between the AU and the IRL relations/events between the UK and the USSR during this time period. As I said, odd question, but...well. You know me. XD

Thank you! :-)

I don't have any specifics, because - silly as this seems - I know this isn't something I can write in any other format, and the moment you start looking into post-war Europe and making things worse, it just all becomes too awful to even contemplate, so I choose not to get detailed about it - I think vagueness is more plausible. I do have a scenario with some rl starting points that I keep to, though. It's not all quite that wobbly BUT I refuse to go more into that level of awfulness for something where I mainly want to play with the situation in the UK (in HotR) and the lead up to it - it's just harder to avoid in D&R, which is the downside of it ( ... )

Oh, no worries! I was just curious, is all. The story doesn't lose anything (probably better without giant depressing geopolitical info dumps...I can never sort out how to make those not textbook-like), it all reads as very realistic/plausible. I like to dabble in the whole alternate-history deal as well, though, so I was interested as to where you decided to break things off into alternate-history land and such.

The turning point is effectively the end of WWII (which happens slightly later in the AU, which in itself is another too awful to contemplate thing) and everything gradually goes more AU from that until 1960 where it goes very, very AU.

The other thing, of course, is that this is nonsense, because I've probably lost most of the real politicians who were around and, as if history would go the same way with different people...

I'm glad that it does work in the way it hopes - I think I have to know where I'm coming from to some degree, but what I want to do is play with the characters and the scenario, so... good! :-)
