Hi everybody! This LJ has interested me for a while. I have just recently joined and would like to share the possible start to my story with you. It will introduce you all to the plot of my story and a couple of the MC. I'm always second guessing myself so I'm already thinking of a different start to my story using another perspective!! I'm usually a journal writer, i'm not used to third person or working in past tense, so please tell me if you notice something fishy! Hope I've done this right, it's been years since I posted to am LJ community, so apologies in advance for anything i do wrong :O

A sun-kissed, platinum haired 22 year old, Emilia Diaz, was running fashionably late to a potluck meeting at the small town spa where she worked. With a few minutes to spare, she swept in and rushed to the exit hallway in the back where women were gathered around a table topped with dishes and baked goodies. Emilia gave the group a twirl as they cheered on her arrival, showered her with compliments on her flowy dress and how much blonder she had become overnight.

Emilia analyzed the over crowded table for a place to plop her dish down.

"Ooh what you got for us this week Ms. Emi??" a southerly speaking blonde asked while stacking boxes of cookies and dounts on top of eachother to clear a space.

"It's my going away present - everyone's favorite: cheesy brocolli casserole!" Emilia replied, removing the dish lid.

"You promised me something Moroccannnn! How am I ever going to experience the foods of the world now that you are leaving us?" the girl whined and pouted.

Emilia had be become known for her adventurous cooking. Every week, she would present her co-workers something new- Indian rice pulao, Vietnamese spring rolls, French ratatouille, or a dish from her dad's Puerto Rican heritage.

"I'm sorry- I kind of messed up the cous cous... I turned it into uhh, one GIANT cous cous." Emilia said with an deprecating laugh, using her hands as if they demonstrated the cooking process.

Having grown up in NYC, Emilia got to try many global cuisines. Her tastes in food were exotic to say the least. When she moved to South Carolina five years ago for college, she felt like that ethnic diversity was gone for good. This just inspired her to learn to cook all of her favorite foods, and soon she began to expose her new local friends to the world outside South Carolina through food. Broccoli casserole was her fail-proof, go-to dish that even pleased the "won't eat anything I can't pronounce" picky eaters.

Emilia has been living a life of southern comfort- she's living with her parents rent-free, has been content with a cushy but low paying makeup spa job, and has been dating a man she is lukewarm to just because he has a speedy boat and a beach house.

For the last year, Emilia has dreamt of returning to New York. She's shrugged those dreams off with an "easier said than done" mentality. Her family lives in South Carolina now, without a New York connection, there'd be little possibility of moving back to the great and over priced city without ending up on the street.

Emilia felt rather apathetic about making any big life change until she read on Facebook that an old friend, burlesque dancer Ava York, serendipitously was looking for a roomate in her marvelous Queens apartment for a room that would become available April 1st.

Ava York, born as Ava Ann Dodds, was also originally from South Carolina, which is a paradox of old fashioned bible belt values and liberal arts 20-somethings "from the outside" who were looking for the next best place to gentrify. The latter was not sizeable enough to make a living in a niche dance scene. At the time they met, Emilia was in her first year of cosmetology and taking a theatrical makeup course when had read an article about Ava York being this prodigy in artful dance forms such as snake charming, fire dancing, and aerial acrobatics. For a class assignment, Emilia sought out the Snow White beauty and begged for the opportunty to work backtage with her doing makeup. After testing Emilia's makeup abilities, not only did Ava arrange for Emilia to style her makeup for all of her performances, but they developed a good friendship over their love for old style everything- classic hollywood movies, fashion, and jazz music.

Almost two years ago, Ava went on a life changing trip to New York for Brooklyn's burlesque festival. She took out her entrie life savings to go up, and then decided to never return, even if it meant being homeless and couch surfing. Fortunatey, Ava's talents were quickly noticed by a premier New York dance agency. Shortly after her first few gigs, she found herself a connection to the too-good-to-be-true Queens apartment for which she had posted about on facebook.

When Emilia read the post about the available room, she felt re-inspired by Ava's exciting looking photos, posts, and small town success story. Without hesitation and realizing she's too young to feel trapped, Emilia replied that she would take it. She gave the small town spa her notice the next day, and after a few days of emailing resumes, was offered another spa position in Queens.

In a few days, Emilia will be returning to New York and begining a journey to dating, working, and living in New York City. Everything so far seemed to start off smoothly.
