Summary: While on the ward, Naomi recieves news about Elaine.

Naomi stared at the white wall across from her. Her mind raced with thoughts of Elaine, and her own recovery. Neither of them had known how severe their disorders were. Naomi had been diagnosed with atypical anorexia, and shockingly enough to herself, she was only a couple pounds above the weight criteria. When had she become that thin? How hadn’t she herself noticed? Naomi had no idea. But what shocked her more was the letter she had received from Elaine’s little sister. Shari was now fifteen, just a few years younger than Elaine. Shari had told her that Elaine had been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder,  and Social Anxiety. The letter also dictated to Naomi that the doctors had found drugs in Elaine’s system.

That part of the letter drove Naomi up the wall. She had been so wrapped in herself that she hadn’t noticed the love of her life falling again. She hadn’t watched close enough, and hadn’t been there for her when she’d needed her. Elaine would rather turn to her pills than to her. What did that say about Naomi? She had failed a loved one yet again.

Clenching her fists, she got up and began pacing the room. Back and forth, back and forth. She wondered briefly want Elaine’s mind was like. Did her thoughts play on repeat? Was it like the psych dramas on TV? Or the psychology books Naomi had read? She shook her head as she paced. Like her own anorexia, Elaine’s disorder wouldn’t be like that on TV.

“You need to sit down, sweetheart, you’ve already reached your exercise limit today.” A small, older nurse peeked her head into Naomi’s room. She had forgotten they were watching her so closely.

“Okay, sorry.” She flopped back down on the bed, gritting her teeth at the feeling of her spine hitting to hard. She needed to talk to Elaine, like now. But they’d never allow it. Elaine was in a different ward, and they weren’t too keen on letting Naomi out of their sight. Too risky for someone with her ‘issues.’

She pulled out the non-spiral notebook they had given her, and the little stub of a pencil that lacked any metal. She began to write, and poured her feelings towards Elaine out on paper. She asked Elaine over and over in the paper why she had been using again, and what it was like in her head… But her biggest question and concern was the one she wrote the biggest,
Why did you never tell me how bad things were?
