Title: Victory
Summary: All is lost.
Notes: In this AU, Ravir never leaves his tribe and thus never becomes Ruhana’s consort. This changes the civil war’s outcome completely.

It was meant to be. Eclipse-born and star-marked, her victory was assured in all things, including the fight for her throne.

Jalenashi’s loyalists routed her sister’s army in the span of a month after Madhav’s death, and though a few rebels fled across the Fallstari border, Ruhana was not as lucky to live to fight another day. Cornered, the little princess surrendered with dignity.

Brought before her elder sister, her idol-turned-nemesis, Ruhana was made to kneel, kiss Jalenashi’s feet, before - a single swipe of a loyalist’s broadsword sent her head rolling and dreams of peace vaporising.

Jalenashi’s throne was won with blood, but more would be spent before Ruhana’s corpse had cooled on the palace floors. The Scourge of the West turned her sights to Arambh’s ancient feud with Fallstar, sending her agents to sow unrest within the rival capital. When the coup set a new king on their throne, Jalenashi struck while the whelp was still solidifying his reign, raining destruction down upon Fallstar’s towns and cutting a swathe through the scrambling armies to Fallstar’s capital.

As the star readers had foretold at her birth, Jalenashi won the centuries-long war with blood and fire.

~

These days Arambh is the only country left in a lonely world. Fallstar is ash and wastes now, the once-fertile lands of the West uninhabitable. The few Westlanders left toil as slaves, but the peasantry of Arambh fares no better. The Queen, shining brighter than the sun, has rooted out all resistance.

The new generation is born into a world where Fallstar is already distant history, only mentioned to exalt the Queen’s majesty and righteous rule.

As for the little princess who dared challenge her, well, she is forgotten, unmourned; it is useless to dwell on might-have-beens.
