Summary: Miranda and Scott share a picnic.

“Oh, come on, give me it back!” I squealed, running after Scott. He had taken the picnic basket and run off with it. I had packed it earlier this morning, and there was a bit of a surprise for him there. I didn’t want him to find it!

“You can’t catch me!” He teased, running faster through the bright green grass that filled the park.

“You wanna bet?” I kicked off my flip-flops and gathered my strength to chase him. I felt like I was flying, but sadly, he still had about three feet on me. I continued to chase him for a few more minutes before flopping down in the grass. “I give up; you win.”

“Like always,” He quickly came beside me and sat down. His arm wrapped around me, and our closeness automaticly comforted me.

“Oh, hush, you don’t always win.” I said, sticking my tongue out at him.

“Suuurrreee,” He said, winking at me.

“Now, now, don’t be all stuck up.”  I  poked his side,   and smirked at him.

“I would never be!” He said; his mouth open and eyes big.  Without warning, he poked my side, and began tickling me.

“Ah, stop!” I began laughing and thrashing around.

“Nah,” He smirked and continued tickling  me. I  squirmed and wiggled, trying to escape.

This went on for a while, until finally I stood up and ran away from him, and into the arched garden that was off to the side of the park.  Despite being bombarded by the smell and sight of beautiful flowers, I continue to run, and soon dove behind a bush to hide from him.

“Well… I guess I don’t always win after all.” He said,  his voice light and teasing.   “Where’d you go, Miranda?”

I could see him slightly through the  gaps in the bushes’ branches. He stood at the entrance arch, still holding the picnic basket.

“Well, fine, I guess I’ll just picnic right here all by myself.” He stated. I watched him open the picnic basket, and pulled out the bright orange blanket I had packed.

“No!” I ran out from the bush and towards him. “Here, let me help”

“Oh, so there you are, Miss Minniebell!” He teased.

“Now don’t you start tickling me again; we’ve got a picnic to have!” I looked at him, and laughed slightly.

“Okay, fine fine, you definitely win this one.” He lifted his hands in surrender.

“Good,” I told him, smirking.

“Now, what good food did you bring?” He asked sitting down on the blanket . I sat down next to him.  Next to us were  daisies and morning glories  bursting with color.  Behind us, there was a lilac bush that covered our area in it’s scent.

“Here you go,” I handed him a small , wrapped gift  from out of the picnic basket.

“... This isn’t food…?”

“Obviously not.” I said, giggling
“ What? Why?”  Scott asked; this had caught him completely off guard , just like I had hoped.

“This is going to sound ridiculous, but it’s been  two years since we met.   Do you remember that day ?” I asked. This conversation made me nervous because I didn’t know if he’d remember, or if he’d like  what I had bought him.

“Miranda… of course, I remember.  I had a feeling you’d be important to me that day, and I’m so glad I was right.”  He looked into my eyes, and lifted his hand to my face. “You are so special to me, Minniebell. I’m so thankful for that day, for switching to your school and slowly becoming close to you.”

Without hesitation, he kissed me, passionately and softly.  I kissed him in return; my heart humming with affection and adoration for this boy who had carefully stolen my heart. When we finally broke apart,  I felt tingles everywhere and I wanted more. However, I knew that was not a good idea here with broad daylight in a public park.

“I guess I should open this now.” He whispered to me.

“Yes, that would be a good idea.”

He carefully tore off the  wrapping, and  lifted the lid of the white box. Inside, he found the dog tag necklace that I had chosen for him.On one side, it had Scott S. Rider, and on the other it was shiny and had a cross and a heart etched in it.  The bright day sun flashed off that side in a dazzle.

“This is great, Miranda.” He pulled it out of the box.

“You don’t have to actually wear it; clip it on your backpack or something.”  I sputtered; I still found myself nervous about things like this with him.

“I think I’d rather wear it; it’s a reminder of the most beautiful girl in my life.” He smiled at me as he put the dog tag around his neck. I couldn't’ resist; I hugged him very, very tight.

“I’m so glad you like it!”

“Of course, I do.” He smiled at me.  “I’m sorry ,sweetheart, but I didn’t get you anything.”

“That’s okay, I didn’t expect anything.” I explained to him.

“How about I take you out dinner tonight  as your present?”  He suggested.

“Sounds like a good plan.”  I smiled at him.

“ I think it’s time to actually have our picnic.”
“Absolutely,” I began pulling out the sandwiches, chips and assorted other foods I had packed for our picnic.
