Where she came from, the sun shone as bright as it was here. The difference was, this road was filled with humans, orcs, elves; non-humanoid creatures, White, black, blue, red-- a parade of skin and hairs.shouting that days were passing by peacefully.

Several plastic bags in her hands, Jian Wan Long returned to her apartment. The mantra for now; cocoa powder, several bars of chocolate, all purpose flour. Unsalted butter, granulated sugar (in other words, sugar), white chocolate chips. Almonds, for topping. She still had the vanilla extract from her last baking session. Ready to go.

Prepare the ritual, speak the words, reap the result.

The supermarket was a cherished place; its rows of anything and everything, from edible things to things one wiped their buttocks with; everything were placed together, without fear of contamination, or disgust. More efficient, less people to interact with.

Turn right after the first junction, then passing the first apartment complex. The same path as always for her; cobbled wonderfully, various trees on the side, a mixture of advanced construction and magic. Turn right again at an old-looking mansion (for nothing was actually old here, nothing rots), and walk straight ahead. A small, humble two-tiered apartment; one of the cheaper living places in Eternity. Some new trees had been planted around, though. Elk and maple; one had an array of plum blossom. They made the day cooler, and the night quieter. Wan Long had always wanted the silence, the solace for tomorrow. The rest was just decoration.

The psion too had walked the same path with her. When Axel was just a new librarian; when they were both the same in her eyes; someone she'd known. Now Axel did.

The door and the wards placed greeted her silently. Nothing changed. No sound inside Axel's room. A shift in the Archive. She headed to the kitchen. Preparing. Wearing the apron. Washing her hands. Turning the oven on.

She slightly cursed whomever it was who designed so many buttons to push. They stared, tempting to be pushed, promising heat as strong and as long as one wished it to be. They too, will be working their own magic. Like the actual ingredients behind each boxes, written so small as if they were a dirty secret. What was it Melvil had said about sufficiently advanced technology?

She pressed once, then quickly turned it off; unsure. Then she pressed it again. The same numbers on the display; blinking. A loud ping. This should work.

Time to begin the ritual.
