Medicinal Love SeriesSummary: Aija's gets a lesson that she won't forget from her father
Characters: Aija, Derrick
Word Count: 456
A/N: I am not an expert when it comes to guns so this is coming from what I have recently researched. Sorry for any incorrect facts. :) Also I just edited the summary recently. I was in a hurry when I first made it and didn't change it at first.
Derrick looked determined as he sat getting the semi-automatic pistol ready for his daughter who stood next to him looking nervous. He gave her a reassuring smile standing up as shots rang out around them.
“Daddy, you sure you want me to do this?”
Derrick nodded at her question and with a wave of hand motioned her to follow. Aija came over with a slow cautious walk, as if trying to avoid who ever was on the other side of them.
“Now…” Derrick started as Aija came to the side of him, “I would love to hope that you would never have to use one of these in your life. But I want you to learn how to use one regardless.”
“But why, Daddy? Is somebody targeting me or something?” Aija really didn’t see the need to use a gun. Her fear in her eyes tugged at Derrick and he tried his best to keep her calm.
“No, Little Girl. But it’s always a precaution to look out for yourself out there on the streets. I want you to take care of yourself. Can you at least try for me?”
Aija looked into her father’s eyes; full of worry and then nodded. “All right, now put your goggles and ear protectors on. It gets pretty loud in here.” Aija obeyed and Derrick started the lesson. After an approving smile he said, “First off you need to make sure the safety is off. The gun always needs to be in a downward position when you aren’t using it for safety. Next thing you need to know is to make sure your hands are in a correct grip.” Derrick demonstrated as he instructed and Aija kept her alert eyes on the gun.
“Make sure both thumbs are clear of the slide or hammer. This mechanism pops sharply backwards when the gun is fired, easily injuring a wayward thumb. Getting popped by the slide can be very painful as well as extremely dangerous, because you don't want to react to getting hurt and risk dropping a loaded and cocked gun with the safety off.”
Aija absorbed all of his other important information and Derrick looked at her questioning, “Anything you didn’t understand?”
“I think I got it so far, Daddy. I just hope I can do good.”
“We’ll play it by ear, Little Girl. Come on up.”
Aija came over and took in a deep breath as her father put the gun in her hands, double checking that she had her hands in the right grip. He really hoped she never had to use it, but he’d be damned if Aija would be taken advantage of without that person suffering the consequences.
