Title: Helpless
Summary: A poem for poison and wine.
Notes: I could have used Akutaq #11, Breakup, for this, but, alas, I will use it in the Alaskan context. Hopefully.
If in the years to come,
You write me a love song,
I might not mind.
If flowers grow upon your grave
Making it seem you’re remembered fondly,
Again, I might not mind.
I will not dance there, anyway.
Is that not enough?
We meet on an afternoon,
Get married on a sunset,
And ever after,
I cannot bear your return-home cheer.
I am not happy.
Why should you be?
There are roses in the attic.
There is a harmony on the air.
Helplessly hoping.
There are fires in my heart.
There is sleet in yours.
Again, helplessly hoping.
