I'm curious to see how this develops. You've introduced two mysteries here: one from Rune's perspective, which is who was knocking on the temple door; and one from the reader's perspective, which is what's going on with his magically moving house. It'll be interesting to see if the resolutions to these are linked.
The temple and the statues are going to be important, but they're not really the center of things, though in some ways maybe they are. Rune found his way to them a few years before and they will be making more appearances through the whole series.

As a beginning, this is excellent. You definitely caught my interest in a) who was knocking at the door and b) what the cat saw.
(And I take it at this point, Rune doesn't know the true nature of the cat).
