big mistake with his life (well, his older brother).
I wonder what Becca will think of it later as she
grows up. Will Gillian or Tane marry again? I
would love to see more stories.

Yeah, I had fun writing that one :) I was going to put in a scene with a slightly older Becca on a weekend with Tane on the orchard, but it didn't quite fit with the arc of this piece... So far neither Tane nor Gillian's remarried, but who knows what can happen in the future? Thanks for reading.

I think the line "you love these trees better than you love your own family" is particularly powerful. Great piece!

I really liked this one :) Both Tane & Gillian's sides are very believable. I particularly liked the acknowledgement at the end that it was far more complicated than caring more about trees than his family.

Yeah... I spent a while trying to make both Tane and Gillian relatable and the situation complex, though Becca never really actually gets the nuances of this divorce when she grows up... then again, she was 3 at the time.
