Phoenix yawned as she came downstairs to see her uncle and aunt sitting at the table. Belle's pregnant stomach was getting really big and she rubbed it while she sipped on her tea. "Merry Christmas." Phoenix yawned out again. The two looked up and smiled. "Merry Christmas, Firebird!" Uncle Tommy said as he got up to kiss his niece on her cheek. She smiled kissing his back and walked over to Aunt Belle who gave her the same. Phoenix looked down at her belly and rubbed it saying, "Merry Christmas, little boy or girl!" Then she asked the two, "Ready to open your gifts?" Tommy and Belle's eyes widened as Phoenix ran out to the tree picking up two big boxes. She had been saving up her money to get her family gifts; they deserved in her opinion to have some great gifts for taking care of her and all.
"Wow, Fire." Tommy said as she handed him his gift, then put the box for Belle in front of her.
"Ok, open them." Phoenix said in excitement.
The two did and were very surprised by their gifts. "Wow, a new drill!" Tommy exclaimed as he stood up with the box. "I've been needing one for a while! Thank you, sweetheart!"
Phoenix smiled and watched her aunt open hers. "Oh my goodness. A foot spa and massager!" Phoenix explained that it was for her swollen feet since she had been having problems getting the swelling down. Belle looked like she was about to cry with happiness. "Oh no! The hormones are unleashed!" Phoenix laughed out as she wiped her aunt's face with a napkin. Everybody laughed but then Phoenix realized that her uncle and aunt looked sad.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
Tommy looked at her and sighed. "It's just...we haven't really had time to shop for presents. We've been so busy with the ranch and the house repairs." Phoenix nodded; she had noticed the lack of presents under the tree. Tommy handed her some keys and said, "Can you go out and get yours out of the truck? We didn't get a chance to." Phoenix wrinkled her nose at the thought of going out in the cold but she said, "Sure, Uncle Tommy. Be right back."
Phoenix started to walk outside but then realized that Uncle Tommy's keys were still hanging up on the wall, along with Belle's. She frowned in confusion. "Uh...Uncle Tommy? These aren't your keys." She stated holding them out.
Tommy and Belle were smiling at her. "I know." Tommy started, "They're yours."
All the air rushed out of Phoenix's lungs. "M..mine? What are you talking about?!" The grins got wider and Phoenix felt her heart beating uncontrollably. "Oh my God! Are you guys serious?!" She didn't give them time to answer as she opened the front door. A beautiful red Nissan Pathfinder was parked in front of the porch and Phoenix screamed in extreme surprise and happiness. "A car! Wow! I got a car!!!"
Before she decided to run out side to greet it properly, she ran back inside into her uncle's outstretched arms, sobbing now. She didn't know how they did it but her uncle and aunt always found a way to get her things that she needed, but this time it was something she wanted and that made her life so much better. "Thank you so much. "I love you." She sobbed out as she hugged her uncle tight, feeling her aunt stroking her back. Tommy held his niece tight, caressing her hair.
"I love you so much, Phoenix. Merry Christmas." Was all he whispered back.
