“Are you sure?”
Marie turned to him. She was never more of sure of anything in her life. All she had ever wanted was him. She needed him.
She nodded.
They turned to the archbishop. He began to say the words that would marry them.
Marie bent her head. She was finally getting married. She didn’t know how but she had survived her father’s rule. She was sure that he would marry her off the minute she turned seventeen. But perhaps he had been too wrapped up in his impending divorce from that woman.
Marie forced herself not to think of her. No, she wouldn’t allow her to ruin her wedding day. This was her day. She wished her mother was alive to see it, but she knew that Therese was happy for her. She could feel it.
Marie allowed the archbishop to lower the chain over her and Jehann’s neck. He blessed them.
They stood and kissed. It was a gently kiss, a promise of more to come.
“I love you,” he whispered into her ear.
She smiled.
The archbishop removed the necklace. He turned to the congregation and smiled.
“I present to you Princess Marie Therese of Family du Bois and her husband, Sieur Jehann d’Ambry. “
Everyone stood and clapped. Jehann led them down from the raised stage. She curtseyed to her brother as she walked past. Henri smiled reluctantly.
Marie took a deep breath as they walked down the aisle. She was Lady d’Ambry. She was Jehann’s wife and she never had felt happier in her entire life.
