The sun was nearly about to set and the sound of a diesel truck sounded in my ears, but I ignored it for now; trucks were a daily thing for the farm and I had more pressing matters with the papers of the foals that were born recently. After making sure a couple of affairs were settled, I looked up seeing my wife leaning against the doorway. "Hey, Cowboy." She said, softly. "Hello, beautiful." I said back. "What's up?" She got off the door's frame and then came towards me asking, "You think you can come down and take a look at this horse? This person wants to give it to us."
"Right now? Oh, Firebird...I got so much to do here. You can't handle it with the others down there?" Phoenix wrinkled her nose a bit at my question. She hated it when I doubted her abilities as a horsewoman. "Of course I can...but..." She reached down and pulled me out of my seat explaining, "I really think this one deserves your keen eye, Chaise." I sighed and after looking down at my persistent wife into her jade eyes, replied, "All right. This better not take long." She reached up to kiss me and said in a simple tone, "This will be worth your time."
I followed her out to the front and saw Mickey and Josh outside near a horse trailer. I was instantly confused. "What's this? They are selling a horse?" I asked. Phoenix just smiled and she yelled out, "Let him out." Josh nodded and after opening the doors to the trailer, pulled gently on the lead.
As soon as I saw those black covered legs step out, I knew exactly who this was and I found myself walking towards the horse feeling my heart swell with emotion. By the time my eyes made it past the bay colored coat to it's own black eyes, I could feel tears threatening to spill down my cheeks. I wiped them away, but they kept coming.
"Wisdom..." I whispered. It was my horse! I had sold him...didn't I? But there he was! I went from a walk to a run yelling out, "Wis! Wisdom!"
Wisdom's head popped up and when he noticed me running toward him and he strained against the lead, nearly pulling Josh along the sidewalk. He laughed and went up to Wisdom's head unclasping the lead rope saying, "Hang on, Big Guy! Let me cut you loose. There you go." Wisdom let out a whinny and he trotted up to me. I laughed as well and when we both stopped in front of each other, wrapped my arms around his neck. "Oh, ho ho! Wisdom! It really is you! You look great!" I looked up at him, stroking his neck and looked back at Phoenix with thanks in my eyes and asking, "He's mine again?"
"All yours, baby." Was all she said and I sniffed, hugging him tight again as my body moved us both with sobs. Wisdom nickered against me and I looked up at him again, feeling my face wet with tears. This was the best thing I could have asked for. I felt horse lips moving against my face and I smiled saying to him, "Yeah, I missed you too. Don't worry...I'll never let you off my sight again."
