Note(s): This takes place in 1107 AW. Andre is 19 and Matilide is 17. Therese is pregnant with Marie-Therese in this piece. Andre is Therese's brother in law being Henri's, the king, brother.
Andre smoothed down his wavy black hair as he hurried to the Queen’s chambers. His sister in law wanted to see him for something or another, but she wouldn’t tell him what.
He arrived and nodded to the two stationed guards.
“Good afternoon, Your Highness,” they both said as they opened the door. Andre went inside.
Someone was singing. Andre slowed down to listen. They or, he supposed he should say she, had a lovely voice. He came to a stop when he saw the scene before him.
Queen Therese was sitting in a gilded chair and was flanked by at least ten of her maids. They were all watching the woman who Andre heard singing.
Andre watched the scene. He couldn’t see the woman’s face but he tell that under her cream hood she had dark blonde hair and she was of a middling stature.
Therese was clapping and Andre focused on his sister in law. She was watching Andre with a smile on her face.
“Mademoiselle Matilide, meet my dear brother, Prince Andre of Duelise.”
The woman turned and Andre caught his breath. She was a pretty thing. She had smooth pale skin and deep chocolate brown eyes framed by long lashes. His gaze went lower for a moment, but he forced himself to look back into her eyes.
“Pleased to meet you, Your Highness,” Matilide said with a clear voice. She curtseyed before him.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mademoiselle,” Andre said struggling to get the words out.
Matilide looked up at him and then winked. He found himself grinning.
“You’ll join us for a snack, Andre? You know how we pregnant women eat,” Therese said.
Andre watched as Matilide turned to her mistress.
“I don’t have anything pressing,” Andre said walking forward.
Therese smiled. “Of course not, dear brother.”
