Notes: This takes place in 1101 AW. The King of Monde is Jean XI, a member of the Du Bois dynasty. Norme is the second largest city in Monde and the title Prince of Norme is usually held by the monarch's eldest son, in this case Henri, future Henri I.
Therese watched her young groom out of the corner of her eye. The prince looked nervous. He kept glancing back from her to the Archbishop. Once she caught him turn around and look at his father, Jean XI.
“Who receives the holy daughter?” The old Archbishop asked.
Henri turned his head back sharply. “I receive the holy daughter.”
Therese bent forward and waited for Henri to do the same. He looked over at her and then to the Archbishop.
“If you’d bend please, Your Highness.”
“Oh!” Henri said bending forward slightly. He gripped Therese’s hand in his own.
“In the Name of the Holy Father, the Holy Mother, and the Holy Son, I do declare you, Henri of the Family Du Bois and you, Therese of the Family Gassinger-Segovia, to be man and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Therese turned to face her groom. His baby blue eyes were shining and he was grinning slightly. She thought of Antonio’s grimace, but then put him out of her mind and she leaned forward.
Henri gently kissed her. He pulled back and held out his arm. Therese took it.
“I present to you, Prince Henri of Norme and his wife, Princess Therese of Norme.”
Henri stepped down. He stopped and bowed to his father. He gave a huge smile to his mother, Queen Elisabeth.
They walked down the aisle and toward the open door of the cathedral.
“Well that wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be,” Henri said softly.
“Why would you think it hard?”
Henri turned slightly as they emerged from the front doors.
“Father says marriage takes a lot out of a man.”
Therese smiled. “My father says something similar.”
Henri grinned. “Oh to be a monarch, huh?”
Therese laughed. She looked at the people crowded outside of St. Ambroise. These were her people now. She would one day be their queen.
“Long live Princess Therese!” Someone called from the crowd.
Therese blew a kiss, which pleased the people. Henri led her down the great steps toward their carriage. The footmen opened the door for them.
“You look very beautiful in red,” Henri said as she climbed inside.
“Oh, thank you, my lord.” Therese said blushing slightly.
He smiled and climbed in beside her.
