Summary: Lady Jeanne, King Henri I of Monde's paramour and betrothed, worries about her involvement in the whole scheme against the Everart faction and their Queen, Anna Everart of Cadomiselle.

Notes: This takes place in early 1125 AW. Henri's second queen, the mentioned Anna has miscarried of twin boys and it has been found that she's been conspiring against the King or at least that's the official story. Sudme is a county in Monde.
“I don’t understand why we had to leave the capital,” Lady Jeanne said to her brother.
Thomas helped his sister out the carriage. Their brother, Gilles, exited after them.
“It’s because the King doesn’t want your reputation tarnished what with the proceedings against the Queen,” Gilles said calmly.
“Yes, sister mine, you must appear to be lily white and your involvement in the whole situation must remained hidden,” Thomas said as they walked into the foyer of Caulmont House, the ancestral seat of the Counts of Sudme.
Jeanne sighed. Her whole involvement in the proceedings against Queen Anna was not completely innocent. She’d told her brothers information about the queen, but she didn’t think any of it would amount to anything at the time. But the Caulmont brothers worked in mysterious ways.
“Where’s mother?” Jeanne asked.
“Oh she’s out visiting or something, you know how mother is,” Gilles said turning to his sister.
Jeanne smiled at her brother. Gilles had always been her favorite. She wondered if she could still trust him.
“Gilles…”
“Yes?”
“This whole thing,” Jeanne started. “Do you really think we should keep up with this? I mean, the Queen could be innocent.”
Gilles grinned. “Are you getting cold feet, dear sister? Why, it’s nowhere near your wedding day.”
“Don’t tease me, Gilles!”
“Don’t distress yourself, Jeanne. Yes, the Queen could be innocent, but you forget she’s failed in her principal duty as a queen.”
Jeanne sighed. “Having a male heir?”
“Yes, Jeanne. If the King had never grown interested in you, he still would need an heir. It could be any woman. Aren’t you thankful it was you?”
Jeanne bit her lip.
“Jeanne?”
“I suppose so.”
Gilles smiled and placed a kiss on his sister’s cheek. “That’s my girl. I’m going to the library. Do you care to join me?”
Jeanne shook her head. “I think I’ll go lie down.”
“You’ve always been such a delicate flower, Jeanne.”
She didn’t say anything as she walked up the stairs leading to the first floor. She looked over and saw Gilles’s blonde head disappear down the hall before continuing on.
