“Grounded?! But why, Mama?” A surprised Chaison asked his mother, who was cutting celery on the cutting board for dinner. “Because you didn’t do as I asked. I asked you to do your chores before going outside with your friends, right?” Skilled hands put the chopped celery in a pot.
“Yeah, but…”
“There’s a but?” She asked.
“My friends were playing football. I really wanted to play and I was going to do my chores when I got through. I promise I was.”
“Was is what got you this grounding, Chaise. One day you’ll learn that every one of your actions has a consequence.” Holly explained calmly.
“Man, I wish I wasn’t…” Chaison began to mutter and Holly spun around, giving her young son a piercing stare. “You wish what now?”
Chaison looked down, knowing he shouldn’t answer. “Nothing.”
“Wise answer, Chaison Wesley. Now I suggest you get to them chores and start your grounding off right. Understand?” Holly says with authority.
Chaison stuffs his anger inside and then headed for his room mumbling, “Yes, ma’am.”
Holly watched him, wondering if he got his attitude from her or from his father.
