Title: Tennis Tournaments and Discontent Teenagers
Challenge: Bubble Gum 13: tournament
Toppings: None
Word Count: 438
Summary: Chloe prods Jennifer to tell her exciting news. Things go array as usual at the lunch table.
Rating: PG-13 for language
Notes: This takes place on November 19, the Friday before Thanksgiving. AHS goes on break for the next week. The week after that is Blue Bowl tournament that Jennifer speaks of for the best male and female tennis players from each city/town in the New England region. The various things mentioned in this piece are a product of my imagination and do not actually exist.

“So guys I think Jen has something to tell you,” Chloe said that day at lunch.

Jessica raised her eyebrows at her.

Chloe smiled and prodded Jennifer. She blushed and hesitated.

“Oh come on, don’t make me tell them. This is your big news.”

Jennifer grinned. “I’m going to the Blue Bowl at the end of November.”

The table was quiet. Madison was looking at her nails and Jessica was staring at Jennifer.

“Isn’t that great?” Chloe said excitedly breaking the silence.

“Phenomenal,” Jessica said in bored voice.

Chloe frowned at her, but Jennifer didn’t seem to notice.

“I’m so excited. I had to beat out the other girls to win the spot as Ashwood’s female contestant. I definitely thought I wouldn’t make it, but I did!”

Jessica gave a fake smile before turning back to Chloe.

“So what are you going to do over Thanksgiving Break? I hear there’s a new romcom starring Jennessa Lambar. I think it’s called Just Do It or something. I know she’s your favorite actress.”

“Yeah I heard about that. I don’t know, I was just thinking of staying home and watching old Star Walk episodes or something.”

Jessica snorted. “What is it with you and that silly show? It’s so lame.”

Chloe reddened; she opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off by Jennifer.

“It’s actually pretty thoughtful. It ponders some universal questions as “Where do we go when we die?” and examines other life forms. I think the President is a fan of the show.”

Chloe stared at Jennifer dumbly. She didn’t think Jennifer even knew that much about Star Walks. When she talked to her on the phone yesterday she hadn’t sounded very enthusiastic about it.

Jessica rolled her eyes. “Whatever. All I know is the computer club foams at the mouth over that show and they are beyond lame.”

Chloe stood up. She’d had enough of Jessica today. She never had anything positive to say and right then and there Chloe was not in the mood for her shit.

“I’ll talk to you after break, Jessica. If you’ll excuse me,” Chloe said marching off towards the trash cans.

“What’s wrong with her?” Madison asked.

Jennifer picked at her turkey and mashed potatoes. It didn’t seem so filling anymore.

“Let’s go Maddie,” Jessica said stranding up. She scooped up her Gena bag and slung it over her shoulder. She picked up her container and marched off without waiting for Madison.

“They’re always mad at each other about something,” Madison mused.

Jennifer was quiet as Madison scraped at her plate. Sometime later the bell rang singling fifth period.
