Summary: Madoc and I are still feeling each other out but I've always known that Madoc is like Firebird in some ways...and in others, not at all.
Madoc didn't know when he first realized he would be a different Boss from his mother. When she'd started showing him the ropes of the Family business, he'd done everything he could to imitate Firebird's methods. As he'd grown older, Madoc had taken to the responsibilities she'd piled on him like a fish to water, all because he'd used his mother as an example of what to do or not do in a variety of situations.
He had dealt with problems like she did, garnered respect like she had, and become a leader like she was. But somewhere along the line, Madoc had developed a fundamentally different relationship with the Family.
Boss Firebird Blaze ruled the Blaze Mafia knowing the Family needed her. She was their Queen, their ultimate ace in the hole, the one that didn't know how to fail. Firebird could carry the entire Family all on her own if need be, she was just that strong.
But Madoc would rule the Blaze Mafia knowing he needed the Family. He knew what it was to be without the love of the Family, and he would never let himself feel that alone and desperate again. He would make himself into the strongest, the quickest, the smartest. Anything the Family wanted him to be, he would become.
The Family trusted Firebird because they knew there was nothing she couldn't do to keep the Family together.
