Notes: This takes place in the later months of 1119 AW. It follows the sub arc Summer of Love '19 (In the process of being completed) and is apart of The Secret Life of Lady Anna Everart main character arc. The Amende is a law that allows the monarch to chose his own spouse without the approval of the Beatua in Canillo or the Head of the Mondian Church, the Archbishop of Morelessa. There is also a law attached to the main one that dissolves the marriage of Henri and Therese. Also might I say that even though I wanted to be a lawyer when I was ten, I am not well versed in law, so the above might sound funny, so excuse any errors.
They were going to the lower regions to visit her parent’s estates.
Anna was having the time of her life. This year had been very good to her. She and Henri had spent the summer vacationing in Sudisport. Therese had been sent away from court. She didn’t know how it could get better.
She had been feeling a little under the weather lately though.
“This is terrible,” she complained to her mother.
“Anna, my dear,” Elisabetta said to her.
“Yes?”
“Do you think you could be pregnant?”
Anna sat up in the bed. Her mother walked over to her.
“Do you really think so?”
Elisabetta smiled gently.
“I would think so. When was the last time you bleed?”
Anna was quiet. She hadn’t even noticed that her menses hadn’t come. She had been wrapped up with things at court.
“We need the physician to confirm it, Mother,” Anna said throwing her covers back and getting out of bed.
Elisabetta nodded.
A little time later, their suspicions were confirmed.
“I believe you are about eight weeks along,” The King’s physician, Dr. Crosser said feeling her belly.
Anna wrapped her arms around herself. She was pregnant! But then something else occurred to her.
“I want to be the one to tell His Majesty,” Anna said to the physician. He nodded.
All through the carriage ride to Ceirise, she had wanted to tell him. But she wanted the moment to be perfect.
They had arrived at the majestic estate of Everata. It hit her suddenly that she knew where she wanted to tell him.
“Come with me, I want to show you my old bedroom,” she said.
“Oh?”
She could tell by the tone of his voice that he was thinking of something else. But she smiled and led him up the stairs. They stopped briefly in front of a portrait of herself as a child.
She had led him inside. He commented on her figures of the Holy Mother and her daughters. But she could barely remember what he said.
“Henri,” she started.
“What is it, mine sweetheart?”
She took his hands in hers.
“I am with child,” she said softly.
No one said anything for a minute.
“Are you sure?”
“The physician confirmed it,” she said looking into his eyes.
He scooped her into his arms and twirled her around.
“This is a joyous day. We must marry soon, my dear.”
Anna laughed. “Yes!”
When he sat her down, it was then that reality hit her. They wouldn’t be able to marry until the Amende passed.
“But you are still legally married to Therese,” she said somewhat sharply.
Henri turned to her. “Not anymore. The Amende passed the day before we left the city. I am a free man, Anna and I am as I have always been. Yours.”
She sucked in a deep breath. She couldn’t believe it. He was free! After three long years of refusing him, his chasing of her, countless gifts, petty squabbles, the rumors at court, he would be hers. She would be Henri’s wife and the mother of his heirs.
She flew into his arms. “This is a truly joyous day. We must marry as soon as possible, yes?”
Henri laughed and kissed her softly.
“Yes!”
Both king and his future queen were content. Nothing could break them apart.
