Summary: Anna writes to her husband. She asks for one last favor.

Notes: Anna Everart is the Queen mentioned throughout this piece. She is the mother to two of the King's children (Elisabeth and Marguerite). She has been accused of treason.
Henri leaned forward to kiss Jeanne. She allowed it, but she blushed slightly.
Henri turned to her brothers.
“What news have you?” Henri asked putting his arm around Jeanne.
Thomas cleared his throat and pulled out some papers.
“We have a letter from the Queen,” Thomas said holding the letter out for Henri to read.
Henri frowned and tightened his grip on Jeanne.
“Read it to me,” Henri said.
Thomas smirked before nodding.
Dear husband,
I write to you again to plead for my innocence. These charges brought against are horrible lies. You know me, my love. I would never try to harm you. I have been a good, chaste wife to you and faithful above all others. If you only allow me to speak to you in person, you would see the truth in my eyes. But if you will not, I beseech you to have justice on me. Allow me to see my daughters. They are my life and I am theirs. I beg of you, please grant me this request.

Thomas finished reading the letter and folded it up.
“What should we do, Your Majesty?”
Henri sighed. “What do you think Thomas?”
“The Queen has made a fool of you. She’s guilty of treason. She shouldn’t be allowed any favors.”
Henri nodded. He turned to Gilles.
“What say you?”
Gilles put up his hands. “I agree with my brother on this matter.”
Henri rubbed his blond beard. He turned to Jeanne.
“And you, Jeanne?”
Jeanne looked up. She looked surprised at being included in the conversation.
“I believe she should be able to see the princesses. It is cruel not to grant her that one last wish.”
Thomas slammed his hand down on the table. He growled lowly but Jeanne didn’t pay him any attention.
“Do you truly think so, my love?” Henri asked.
“Yes. From one woman to another, she should be allowed to see her children.”
Henri placed a kiss on the top of Jeanne’s head. He stood up and offered her his hand. She took it pointedly ignoring her brother.
“Gentlemen, your sister and I will take a walk in the gardens. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Gilles nodded and looked over at his older brother. It was a full minute before Thomas swallowed hard and nodded.
With that, Henri and Jeanne left the room. The door closed behind them.
“That little cunt!” Thomas yelled.
“Quiet brother, they might still be able to hear you,” Gilles said trying to calm his brother.
“She should listen to me. She’s allowed her fucking heart to rule her. If the people find out that the Queen is allowed to see her daughters one last time, they may have sympathy for her.”
Gilles chuckled. “I doubt that. They were never too fond of Anna.”
Thomas gave his brother a hard glance. “We can’t allow the people to have sympathy for the Queen. They’ll hate us for getting rid of her.”
Gilles sighed. “You worry too much, brother. Have peace. They love Jeanne as they once loved Therese. Nothing can go wrong.”
Thomas ran a hand through his hair. He gathered up the papers.
“We shall see,” Thomas mused. “We shall see.”
