Summary: While feeling misplaced, Adria goes for a walk and discovers something very interesting in a basement not far from the Genesis Project base of operations.
She was so small; so innocent and so vulnerable. Adria could hardly believe that such a vulnerable creature could have made it thought the war, especially not under these conditions. It had been the small infant’s cry that had alerted Adria to her presence. Feeling a sense of vulnerability herself, and a little bit overwhelmed with her situation she had taken a walk, and in doing so had walked past an old abandoned building not far from the Genesis Project headquarters and base of operations. It had been completely and utterly by chance that she even went for a walk that day. When the unease set in, she was going to have a lie down, a rest to refresh her spirits, but then she felt a great desire for a walk instead. She shuddered to think what may have befallen this poor baby if she had not happened upon her. Investigating the area carefully she had discovered the pair hiding in the corner of the basement in the building; the tears in the older girl’s eyes were evident.
And now Adria would notice the older girl for the first time, and as she looked up to the girl’s face she felt an instant connect. It was something unlike anything she had ever experienced before. Amazed, Adria realised the girl in front of her could not have been more than about twelve years old. Her hair was a nutty crimson, and it seemed to shine when it caught the light; and her eyes were a deep blue. Her hair parted directly down the middle, and it curled gently until it reached the bottom at which point the curl was more defined. She had a kind of sadness about her, in her face and in her countenance. Adria thought she must have some tragic past. It red head before her wore a beautiful dark blue dress with lacing and short puffed out sleeves. It was beautiful, and possibly expensive in the current climate.
It was strange for Adria to feel as connected as she did to this little girl. It had only been a few weeks since her journey had begun, and she knew less about this place, about this reality, and this time than she wanted. Perhaps she was looking for someone to connect too, something to hold onto in the shifting moments of her life. It wasn’t the first time she had felt this way, and she doubted it would be the last.
Even though Adria had saved that little girl and her baby sister that day, she could not get the red head to talk to her, no matter what she said to her. Still feeling the connection she had felt earlier in the day, she made the decision to bring her back with her to the Genesis Project and to give her a home, and a chance. It would be months before the twelve year old would divulge any information about herself or her baby sister.
