The Mondian ChroniclesTitle: Sudisport Beach
Word Count: 1,612
Summary: While the royal court goes on progress, Therese decides to bring a new pawn into the game.
Notes: This takes place in the last stages of 1117 AW. The characters depicted are of Generation B. Therese is the mother of Henri's daughter, Therese, as well as his Queen. Anna is Henri's mistress, but refuses to consummate their relationship.
When the King announced that their progress would be going to Sudisport, all the court was excited. It was nearing winter time and Sudisport was sunny and sandy. The only people that weren’t excited were the two special ladies in the King’s life.
“You’re bringing her?” Anna spluttered when the King visited her quarters that night.
Henri poured himself a goblet of ale and settled into the chair by Anna’s bed.
“I can’t very well leave the Queen behind when I go on progress, can I sweetheart?”
Anna let out a shriek which didn’t seem to bother the King.
“I could take her place. I’m your number one after all?” Anna asked bending down before him.
Henri looked down at her. Her grey eyes were cloudy, but he could see the passion in them.
He put a finger under her chin and lifted it. He placed a gentle kiss on her lips before
speaking. “Yes, you’re my number one, my sweet. But I cannot disrespect the Queen by not bringing her on progress, besides my daughter needs her mother with her.”
Anna hissed but didn’t say anything more. Henri pulled her into his lap and kissed her neck.
“Don’t kiss me there, I’m sensitive,” Anna moaned.
Henri chuckled. “I know.”

“I cannot believe him!” Therese said to Marceline.
The other ladies were packing up the Queen’s many gowns, but her favorite, Marceline was sitting with her.
“You must forgive him, Your Majesty; he’s a man after all.”
“What does he think bringing his tart and no doubt her family will accomplish? Our daughter will be there. Does he not care for how she feels since he clearly doesn’t care about my feelings?”
Marceline patted the Queen’s shoulder.
“That woman is just terrible; I cannot look her in the eye. Out of all the women in the court, he has to choose the most immature one!” Therese said putting her hands into her chin.
“Your Majesty, why don’t you choose a woman for him?” Marceline whispered into her ear.
Therese perked up at that.
“That’s a good idea, Marceline. But he is so besotted with the tart; he might even reject the chosen lady.”
Marceline laughed. She turned to the ladies.
“You have very beautiful ladies attending you. They can advance your causes with the King. And as for the tart, I have it on good record she’s not opening her pretty long legs for him.”
Therese laughed. “She won’t be able to get away with that for long. But you’re right Marceline.” Therese said patting her on the hand. “You are very cunning.”
Marceline laughed, but didn’t say anything.
Therese looked over the women. “Who should I choose?”
Marceline sat up straighter.
“Imelda is a pretty thing. She’s nineteen, unmarried and she has a beautiful shape. She’s the Duke Vigila’s daughter. I think her father would be very proud for his daughter to be a lover to the King.”
Therese nodded. “But would her looks please him?”
“Imelda has the Ibonian look to her. Jet black straight hair, emerald green eyes, and she’s fair. The King would like her and she would not cause a problem to your position, Majesty.”
“Imelda darling, come here!” Therese called to the girl.
Imelda looked up and blushed deeply. She ran to the Queen and curtseyed low.
“Yes, Your Majesty?”
Therese smiled down at the girl. “How would you like to please your Queen?”

The royal progress took eight days to reach the Mondian coastline and the beautiful city of Sudisport.
The Queen was in the royal carriage with her nine year old daughter, Marie, and Therese was pleased to say her husband as well.
“Papa, are there truly beaches at Sudisport?” Marie asked.
Henri laughed. “Yes, my child, beautiful white sand and the clear turquoise ocean await us.”
Marie clapped her hands. Therese smiled down at her daughter and hugged her close.
The carriage was quiet for awhile. Marie hummed which seem to be soothing to her father as he looked half asleep.
“Tell me about that lady of yours, Imelda,” Henri asked Therese.
She hid a smirk.
“She’s the daughter of the Duke Vigila who has very beautiful lands in Ibonia.”
“She is very beautiful. How have I never noticed her before?”
Therese shrugged.
Henri was quiet after that. Marie fell asleep on her mother’s shoulder. Therese kissed her daughter’s pudgy little cheek.

“I was supposed to ride with the King!” Anna complained to her mother.
In their carriage, about three paces behind the Royal family, were the Everarts.
“You have nothing to worry about dear,” Elisabetta said.
“Don’t I? There is no ring on my finger!” Anna hissed.
“Oh would you shut the fuck up, Anna!” Pierre said.
Anna rounded on her brother. She reached over and pinched him.
“Ouch Anna, you beanpole!”
“You should be glad you’re even coming, Pierre. We could have easily left you in Morelessa.”
“Mother, Anna pinched me!” Pierre whined to Elisabetta.
Elisabetta smiled but didn’t say anything. Anna crossed her arms and looked out the window.
“The King has to keep up appearances, Anna Louise, that is all. You have his heart.” Her father said giving her a rare smile.
Anna smiled at him. “If you say so Father.”

The court arrived at Echouer House, one of the royal palaces. Henri and his men settled down into one side of the house, while the Queen and her women settled down on the other.
Unfortunately for the Queen this included Anna.
The Queen pointedly ignored her rogue maid of honor. Anna kept a tight lip and stayed with her sister and Marie’s young daughter, Lucille.
While the women were sewing, Therese brushed her daughter’s hair.
“Your daughter is simply beautiful Lady Marie,” Therese said smiling at Marie Everart.
Marie blushed prettily and hugged her daughter close to her.
“She looks remarkably like her father,” Therese said looking over at Anna.
Anna bit her tongue. Marie mumbled something and looked worriedly at her younger sister.
“Does it bother you, Lady Anna, that your sister had him first?” Therese said coyly.
“If it doesn’t bother you that’ll have him last, Your Majesty,” Anna said looking directly into the Queen’s blue eyes.
“You should know your place, Lady Anna,” Therese said standing. The Princess Marie looked worriedly up at her mother.
Anna stood up as well and she looked down at the Queen.
“You should know that your time is coming to an end, Your Majesty,” Anna said her grey eyes flashing dangerously.
“You think His Majesty would put aside me and risk angering my brother and his support in not only Ibonia, but Cannilo as well for the likes of you?”
“I can give him what you can’t,” Anna hissed.
“And what is that, Lady Anna?”
“A son.”
Therese smiled up at Anna. “My days are not over yet, I could still have a son and your power will be all but gone.
Anna’s smile was deadly. “Then I suggest you work on that.”
There was a knock at the door, but all attention was on the two women in the middle of the room. Someone knocked again and Therese looked away from Anna.
“I believe it is time for the beach,” Therese said beckoning her daughter. “Are you excited, carina?”
Marie followed her mother, but she kept looking back at Anna. The Queen and the princess exited the room and the ladies followed. All that were left behind was Lady Anna and her sister, Lady Marie and her daughter, Lucille.
“You shouldn’t anger the Queen, Anna. She has a lot of power behind her. I heard the Revered One is on her side,” Marie said.
“So? Have you forgotten Marie, our mother is Cannilian and our uncle has very powerful friends in the Church.”
“Yes, but that can only go so far, sister,” Marie pleaded.
Anna smirked. “We shall see.”

“Papa, the sand is so beautiful!” Marie said playing in the white sand.
“Monde has the most beautiful beaches, my child. You will never find them more beautiful.”
The King watched his daughter play before his gaze fell on Lady Imelda. She was a little ways from them.
“Stay there for Papa,” Henri said to his daughter.
Marie nodded and returned to digging for seashells.
“Lady Imelda,” Henri said coming up behind the dark haired woman. She turned around and smiled up at him before curtseying before him.
“You are one of my wife’s ladies?”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Imelda said with a thick Ibonian accent.
Henri smiled. “Ah, I do love the Ibonian accent.”
Imelda laughed.
Henri step closer and took Imelda’s hands. “Have you ever been with someone like me?” He asked.
Imelda looked down shyly. “There are no men like Your Majesty in my homeland.”
Henri ran a finger down her cheek. “Not even the King of Ibonia?”
Imelda nodded.
“How would it please you to become my mistress, Lady Imelda?”
“I thought the King already had a mistress.”
“A King can have as many mistresses as he wants and what I want is you in my bed,” Henri said stepping closer.
Imelda pressed herself against his chest. “Then the King shall have me.”
Henri smiled. “So I shall.”

“Where is Lady Imelda?” the Queen asked Marceline.
“She’s with the King, I believe.”
Therese nodded. “I see our plan is working.”
Marceline took the Queen’s hand. “Yes, my lady.”
Therese laughed. “It was almost too easy. We’ll see how that tart reacts to this when she finds out. If Imelda is good, maybe she’ll rid of me of the tart all together.”
Marceline smiled at her Queen. “We should hope so.”
