Title: Lost in the Woods
Timeline: 1135 AW. Elisabeth is 15. Jehann is 30.
Summary: Elisabeth gets lost in the woods.
Elisabeth had wandered off from the group. She looked around and saw endless trees.
“How did I get into this predicament?” Elisabeth asked herself. Then it hit her.
She had run off from her family because Sieur Jehann had been with them. She had been
watching him and Marie closely. They didn’t say anything to each other, but Elisabeth caught Marie looking back at Sieur Jehann and then she had saw Jehann wink at Marie. That’s when Elisabeth had quietly slipped into the woods.
“I wonder if they even know that I’m gone?” Elisabeth wondered to herself.
She sidestepped a broken trunk only to trip over something.
“Shit!” She yelled out. She looked down and saw a medium sized rock on the ground. She kicked it away angrily and pulled her legs to her chin. She sat like that for awhile before she heard something coming.
She quickly jumped up and backed up against a tree. She forced her eyes opened and saw a stag coming towards her. Elisabeth blinked.
“Oh my god,” Elisabeth whispered.
The stag nibbled at some grass before watching her warily.
“Is this a sign from the Holy One?” Elisabeth asked herself. The stag was the Du Bois family emblem. It was legend in her family that when one saw a stag they would be blessed with good fortune.
She heard footsteps and she whirled around. Sieur Jehann was running towards her. Elisabeth quickly brushed the dirt off her violet gown and stood straighter.
“Princess Elisabeth,” he said huffing as he came up to her. He bent over to catch his breath.
“I got lost,” Elisabeth said by way of explanation.
Jehann coughed and stood up. Elisabeth looked up into blue eyes and she found herself blushing.
“Princess Marie noticed you were missing. I told her I would look for you. The family is in quite the frenzy.”
Elisabeth bit back her retort. So it was Marie who had noticed she wasn’t with them? Marie always did watch them like hawks; she was surprised she had made it away from them in the first place.
“I’m sorry to have worried my beloved sister,” Elisabeth said sarcastically.
If Jehann noticed her tone of voice, he didn’t say anything.
“Shall we?” He asked stepping aside for her.
Elisabeth nodded. They began to walk back toward the d’Ambray family home. Elisabeth stole a quick glance at Jehann. He was looking forward and watching for low lying branches.
At least I do get to spend this little time with him. She thought sadly.
