Summary: Bernard makes a realization at work.
Word count: 332
Notes: This is something that has been kicking around in my head for a while. I have an arc name too! In this AU they're human, but Bernard is the boss over the hotel business and has a group of workers Cathy and Alene included. Alene is with Elliot in this AU, but can't help the attraction she feels for Bernard. Bernard knows he shouldn't try to get with one of his co-workers, but can feel the pull between them as well. I have to say that I was heavily inspired by The Office while writing this. XD. Well enjoy and I can add to Malt Madness!
“Alene, could you make me a copy of this report and give these copies for Cathy.” Bernard stuck his head out his office.
Alene nodded. “Sure thing,” She took the paper and walked over to the copier.
Bernard walked back into his office before he stared too long. He returned to his desk and placed his head in his hands. He was falling for Alene. He couldn’t believe it. Alene was nice, pretty, and smart. She could easily keep up with him, but she had a boyfriend. Bernard didn’t know much about him, but Alene looked happy. He didn’t want to continue, but he didn’t want to stop.
Bernard could hear Albert tell him all the things wrong with that. He looked up at the knock on the door. “Yes?”
“I made the copy and gave the papers to Cathy.” Alene walked in and placed the document on the desk.
“Thanks,” Bernard grinned.
“You’re welcome. Um, are you staying late tonight?” Alene nervously smoothed down her skirt.
“Yeah, for a while, why?”
“I parked on the sixth floor again and Cathy is leaving early, so she won’t be able to drive me to my car tonight. Will you be able…I mean…can you take me to my car tonight?”
“Sure. It’ll be pretty late and I don’t want you to leave by yourself. It’s fine.”
“Great,” Alene smiled in relief. “I should probably get back to work now.”
“Me too. Are we still on for lunch?”
“Yeah, you and Albert with me and Cathy, right?”
“That’s right.”
“Okay,”
“Alright,”
“I’ll see you.”
“Okay, see you.”
Bernard waved as Alene returned it and walked out.
He sat back in his seat with his hands behind his head. She asked me to drive her again and she remembered lunch. Maybe I shouldn’t call things off yet.
Bernard gave a hopeful smile and returned to his work.
There was nothing wrong with harmless flirting, right?
He still couldn’t shake off Albert’s reasoning voice in his head.
