I sat on the bed, watching him tie his dress shoes. After that he dusted off his black smooth looking Armani pants. I was conflicted with thoughts. When was the last time he dressed up for me? When was the last time he decided to put on the shiny cufflings on his shirt? When was the last time he decided to cover his body with cologne? As I thought this, he went into the bathroom to fix his hair. I got up and walked into the living room quietly. The bedroom had recently of late begun to feel like a room of tension more than a room of love.
I stopped and looked around the living room of the spacious condo. How many times had he did it here? On this very couch that we had made love on several times. My territory was being claimed. He had been leaving the house every day at a certain time for almost a year and a half now. He knew what he was doing...and I was pretty sure he knew that I knew as well. Still, that didn't stop him. My heart flickered now instead of pumped the blood through my body. It was so weak from hurt. Somehow, I was still here. I'm surviving.
When the bedroom door closed, I knew he was leaving. I sat down on the couch and waited for him to come out looking all spiffy and clean like he was on the way to work. But it was a Saturday; no chance of that. Without a word, he picked up his keys and began to leave the building.
"Have fun. Be sure you tell her that your wife says hi." I said quietly and to the point. Val stopped at the front door and looked at me as if he as if he had just met me. I stared back quite the same; not knowing who the hell this man was in front of me. Afterwards, he blinked and then said, "I'll be home tonight. See you then."
When the door closed, it was silent again.
That was ok...I welcomed the silence now.
